Bypassing the union

Just got this about half an hour ago off the rep.....RM have announced they are going to bypass the union altogether and just bring in everything by executive action. Ive asked is this true....yes came the reply, another says its another one of Thompsons outbursts as he's chucked his dolls out the pram in a reaction to the strike dates. Theres supposed to be a briefing tomorrow....anybody else had this?

Well our dim basically says from 1 st November he has more power to move people which he already is, including forcing someone to do a firms walk he doesn’t want to do, despite only signing for his current walk in April this year! He says it’s business needs and has also changed me this week! Seems no point in signing for a walk when they can just move you when it suits them

They can move anybody even duty holders, operational needs, provided you have had the training to do what you are being asked. If you do a delivery, you have had the training. If they ask you to drive and you haven't had a changeover you can't. They have always been able to do this. They are not supposed to fail the same walk two days running, however there are some people that never get moved.

Yep makes no sense , takes a lot longer tying up and delivering a duty you have no idea about.

We've already had meetings this morning explaining most of the changes are being brought in by January, there's even talks of VR being offered shortly, I sense things are starting to move quickly and the CWU seem powerless to act, you do have to wonder what we've been paying our union subs for.

Dave Ward is writing a letter to MPs and leaving messages on major shareholders answering machines. I’m sure we will be fine….

I'm surprised just how weak the union seem to be, I bet RM are now wondering why they're waited so long before giving them a good kicking.

If it wasn’t so serious it would be laughable. A work place ballot to see if we are prepared to accept changes that are already being brought in by executive action. A ballot that can achieve nothing positive whatsoever. A 100% no vote won’t deter Simon Thompson from bringing in the changes he wants. If a sizeable minority vote yes it just weakens their argument.

Inviting major shareholders to see their alternative vision of the future of the business? As if major shareholders will have any interest in anything but maximising profits and dividend payouts. As if major shareholders are going to take the side of the union and put pressure on the business to change their plans. Total joke.

So what are we left with? A few days strike action in 3 weeks time when they are already talking about starting redundancies next week. It feels all so weak and inadequate.

Wasn't one of the CWU's "alternative plan" ideas to mount a national campaign to persuade people to write and send more letters?

Like that is going to happen with the younger generations of today

CWU have been 2 steps behind from day one. Fannying about with ineffective one day strikes and requesting fresh talks while our employer had already fuc*ed us over forever.

This next 3 weeks will be excruciating, nobody will give a s**t by December
