Notification of strike dates
CWU has notified us this evening of two further strike dates on 12 and 14 November.

After two days of talks at Acas and agreeing plans to meet on Monday, we are surprised that without any discussion CWU has chosen to announce two further days of strike action.

CWU seem more interested in inflicting further damage on the business at our busiest time of the year rather than seeking a resolution for the benefit of our employees and our customers.

On Friday, 14 October, we announced losses of £219 million in the first half of the year. This once again demonstrates the urgent need for Royal Mail to change. Further strike action would materially increase our losses for the full year and may necessitate further operational restructuring and job losses.
We will continue to do all we can to minimise delays and keep people, businesses and the country connected.

If Simon Thompson is that confident he has the business at heart in these trying times will he forego his bonus and perks not asking the guy to starve himself to death. Does ST really think that the CWU would postpone strike notifications on the basis of a couple of days of talks? He's having a Donald Trump moment. If he wanted to end the action he only needs to table a reasonable pay offer then serious discussions can follow. At the moment he is still posturing and puffing out his chest. It must drive his negotiating team insane. Anything that might move things forward has to be cleared by him.

Never heard of the phrase ‘speak softly but carry a big stick’?
The law demands 14 days notice of strike action. If talks are not going well, we apply further pressure by setting out strike dates, in advance. Under the law, you CAN cancel them at short notice, if a deal is struck before the first of those new dates is reached.
Too many times in the past, the CWU has had RM by the balls, only to release their grip, and stop squeezing. By the time they realised that RM were playing for time, it’s been TOO LATE to set strike dates that would cause the most damage.
I for one applaud this move.

Well who the hell is TEAM is this some fictional gathering of minds in the Royal Mail or does he actually have a TEAM like of mini Simon Thompsons ie managers who actually believe in his vision? Or is this some kind of illusion/delusion of the facts that his has a whole TEAM who actually believe and will go over the top for him and thus die for him in his dreams! If we lose this battle you will not be able to afford your mortgage for the future, and your working conditions will be unbearable. Financially it’s very difficult but as the saying goes’ fight and you may lose, don’t fight and you will definitely lose’ and I say this as someone who’s got 3 kids and a mortgage and my wife is a postie too

Difficult though it is we need to stay strong and determined or except a massive reduction in our terms and conditions, which I for one am not willing to except
