It’s Royal Mail that have imposed a pay increase, taken executive action on change, torn up agreements, are pushing ahead with unagreed revisions, claimed it’s their business to run, said they will only consult with the union in future, held secret talks about a takeover and now announced 10,000 job losses.

There is only one side that has been winding up and inciting people.

Sums it up. The Union has clearly stopped listening to, or representing the opinions and interests of, much of its membership. Two weeks ago Dave Ward finally said he'd let us all know last week what the Union's "alternative vision" of the company actually entailed. Still yet to hear what that is. Instead, we get more again today on "innovative new products" with "social value" to "leverage the competitive advantage of the USO". What are these, and how will the make money? It's now fairly clear that is all hollow and unsubstantiated waffle.

If that alternative (but illusory) vision of the company is the position from which the Union is trying to negotiate, then the Union has now become a bigger problem for the workforce than management. It will ultimately ensure that these "talks" are fruitless and render the industrial action pointless. They should be trying to negotiate the best possible deal from the core demands that the company wants. They need to be willing to cede ground on the company's priorities, while securing the best possible pay deal and protecting all the other T&Cs that the company aren't quite so concerned about attacking. Instead, the Union is playing a game of chicken that it's about to lose, and wasting the strong mandate they once had from the membership in order to chase their pipe dream fantasies of dictating to the company how the company will actually run (which happens to be antiquated and economically unsustainable) - and if that doesn't work, begging labour to renationalize them after they've destroyed the commercial viability of the company, which simply will never happen.

The Union needs to start living in the real world or else any talk of pay rises will instead be replaced with fending off even more job losses.

If they call off the strike i will definitely leave the union ,i would of thought after his tactics today we would be calling for a full weeks strike.

tbh don't think anything the union put forward will be accepted by royal mail they have there own agenda and that's to impose there own ways on us. so calling off next week is a definite no it's the only thing that we have left to try and at least get them to the table for proper negotiations and come to some sort of deal

That’s exactly what they have been doing though. As for the unions ideas it’s a case of waiting until RM enter meaningful talks before they discuss them, it makes no sense to shout them from the roof top before you can do that.

There’s only one side playing chicken here and it’s not the union.

If u take the time to read RM’s statement to the stock market this morning the union haven’t even served notice to RM on the rolling strikes yet, I guess they thought it might offer a breakthrough but clearly not. They need to serve notice asap.

The union do not run the company. However, this is a fight to the death. RMs ridiculous union ending agenda has totally been responsible for how this is panning out. We are between a rock and a hard place
