Has your office got one?
Are they working?
I am the coach at our office and enjoy the job alot.I still think royal mail messed up in london when they closed the school at kings cross

how do other people feel about new entrant training?

We've got one,am i right in saying you get Â£30.00 a week for it,all the time even when not training.

Thats right postman Â£30 a week allowance all year round.If you have a high turnover of staff in your office then you might have to graft a bit for it

.Its worth it when you see new entrants sticking it out and making a go of it.

I now wish I when for it now but cut my nose off etc after an argument with the guvnor at the time and told him to stuff it

CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME INFO PLEASE.NEXT WEEK WE ARE HAVING SEVERAL NEW ENTRANTS START BUT WE ONLY HAVE ONE COACH. IF I HAVE TO TRAIN ONE OF THEM CAN I REFUSE ON THE GROUNDS THAT THE COACH IS BEING PAID TO DO IT AND I 'M NOT AND IF THERE IS A CHANCE THAT I CAN GET PAID FOR TRAINING TOO.

You may not want to push it Phil as far as I can remember when the advertised it at our place the first week the new guy is on your duty and you show him the ropes. Then you are sent on to another walk but have to keep coming back to keep an eye on him and see how he is progressing. If needed you may have to help him throw his walk off and go out on it with him and then complete your walk as well. Not my idea of fun at all. I may be wrong but look before you leap at it.

Coaching is a skilled job,where training and a certificate are awarded ,so tell your DOM your not qualified to carry out this task,its there balls up they should have sent 1 down at a time

On the other hand he could pay you the Â£30 a week allowance for say 12 weeks get the new blokes trained and everyones happy.

That was the reply i wanted to hear about i don't have to train anyone anymore.Some blokes in our office have just got on with training new recruits in the past but i have never been happy about it since we have someone who is being paid to do it.Trouble is no one tells you anything so you just get on with it i suppose.

I think you have fallen into royal mail's trap. When the coaching job was advertised in my office i thought about applying. After reading the guidlines for the job i realised that all you where was a snitch for the screws ie. take on the roll of team leader by writing reports about not only your trainees but the performances of your workmates on the likes of sorting performance. The person who applied and got the position is unfortunately one of the screws blue eyed boys and also a SCAB. Hope you enjoy your Â£30 a week for snitching on your mates.

ITS CHANGED A LOT OF LATE WHEN I DID MY TRAINING IT WAS ALL NICE BE NICE HELP PEOPLE STAY ON AND BE A FRIEND TO ONE AND ALL,EVEN THOUGH I DID THE COURSE I DIDNT GET A PLACE AS A COACH OR THE MONEY SO THEY SENT SOMEONE ELSE ON THE NEW COURSE AND NOW ITS ALL ABOUT PREP RATES,MAKING SURE PEOPLE ARE WORKING TO THE FULL EXTENT ETC ETC MORE TO DO WITH DOING WHAT THE BOSS SHOULD BE DOING RATHER THAN NEW ENTRANTS,IT CHANGED BECAUSE SOMEONE REALISED WE ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE GETTING RID OF PEOPLE THAN TAKING THEM ON

Not every coach is like that, I took on the job for 1 reason only...........................to try to convince them to join the union, some coaches were by passing union or slagging cwu off. So we saw an opening for recruiting..............but I do actually enjoy it but NEVER written any reports!!

A few years ago I used to give new starters tuition, I did'nt mind, 1st day they followed me around, 2nd day I gave them a hand with the delivery, 3rd day I just used to follow them and make sure they did everything correctly. Now I think they get 1 days tuition and then left to get on with it. New starter the other week lost 3 specials all the managers said 'oh well never mind he's new'

They don't give a s**t anymore, just want to get the stuff out of the building.
