Allowances being taken off us , ... Any truth in the rumors?
Talk the last couple of days at our office that all allowances are being taken off us, d2d supplement, driving allowance, workplace coach, ex PHG. Is there any truth in this? There's nothing on the union Facebook about it, so I'm dubious about this. Anyone else heard this at their office. If true, it's a new low for the company and extremely worrying.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well that's reassuring then..... For the time being at least!
I'm always amazed at how these rumors take off in Our office. It even had the managers had started contacting people to give them notice of when the allowances were going....
The other one was that the £1400 will disappear by September.
Trouble with all these rumors is with the company as it is these days nothing would surprise you.

Age old tactic, release a rumour like this, judge the reaction to it, if it's not too bad bring it in, if there's a seriously bad response to it, ditch it. The govt do it all the time.

Alright delivery supplement... Far as I'm concerned it replaced d2d money, which we did used to get paid per item as it goes. D2d's are classed as live mail.... So we do get paid for them as we are paid to deliver mail... last time I checkedaaaannnyyway... Would still not be happy loosing £27 per week... Kind of makes the 6% a pay cut.

We won't find out until we grow
Well I don't know if all that's true
'Cause you got me, and baby, I got you

I got you babe, I got you babe

Re: Allowances being taken off us , ... Any truth in the rumors?
There is a section in the new agreement covering the functional supplements but it is concerned with consolidation not removal.
For those who started after 2010 (part of my delivery supplement is already pensionable) it will mean that £11.18 will now become pensionable and the hourly rate of overtime over 37 hours will increase but not much else.
Anyway it's subject to the implementation of indoor methods so that might never happen and personally I would rather it didn't.
What difference does it make?Subject to deployment of Indoor Method changes as set out at section 7 of this Agreement, where an employee receives the functional supplement at the date of this Agreement, £10.55 (£11.18 to take account of the 6% uplift) of that functional supplement will be consolidated into base pay. That consolidation will take place as soon as possible following deployment of the changes set out in the Indoor Method at Section 7 of this Agreement. Any element of functional supplement over £10.55 (£11.18 to take account of the 6% uplift) that is not currently consolidated into base pay will remain unconsolidated.

Re: Allowances being taken off us , ... Any truth in the rumors?
The functional supplement, which is made up of numerous payments such as shift allowances, night rate, unaddressed mail payments, is going to be reduced and used to increase basic pay. Unless the CWU can prove otherwise the functional supplement is being used to fund the latest pay deal. The idea that there is a door to door payment is false. The per item payment was lost when workers in delivery were outvoted by workers in other functions. If we had a breakdown of the vote for the latest deal we would see that workers in delivery did not vote for it.

There must be a few staff where it might end up being a net pay cuttramssirhc wrote: ↑21 Jul 2023, 07:21The functional supplement, which is made up of numerous payments such as shift allowances, night rate, unaddressed mail payments, is going to be reduced and used to increase basic pay. Re: Allowances being taken off us , ... Any truth in the rumors?
It is not totally untrue.
Now that the agreement has been voted in you will have seen how quick they moved on the sick scheme changes from 1st aug.
Now…..you may remember that “allowances will remain for those “”who currently receive them””
This actually means for example TPM allowance, going forward you will only get it if you have a mech duty.
& the sunday premium….you will only get it if your duty is a sunday (or sat night post mdt) not on OT or SA either.
So you are about to see that indeed alot of people will be losing allowances.
The actual wording was something like “allowances will remain for current duty holders”
There are lots of people who pick up ad-hoc TPM & sunday premium via OT / SA etc this will stop.
They voted for it now its time to pay the piper.

Here's a little kicker for you:

6.3 Sunday Working
Sunday working will remain voluntary but for those that choose to work on Sundays;
• Individuals whose duty time already includes a Sunday and receive a Sunday
Premium will continue to receive it.
• For existing employees that choose to work on Sundays within duty time in the future,
Sunday Premium will continue to be paid.
• To encourage existing employees to work on Sundays, including additional earnings
opportunities, the options set out in 5.1 for dedicated parcel routes will also apply on
Sundays.
• Explore attractive and efficient duty structures and reward mechanisms which will
encourage current employees to migrate to DPR’s and remove the need for external
or alternative resourcing options.
• New employee contracts will include a requirement for regular Sunday working.
• In the event current employees do not volunteer to follow the work, after utilising and
developing all options contained in this agreement, Royal Mail reserves the right to
use alternative resourcing arrangements.
