On the face of it, it looks a smart move, Martin Seidenberg of International Distributions Services ( IDS,) Royal Mail's owner, has increased its GLS international parcels network logistics business revenue up 39%.

He seems to know what he is doing and what is needed to keep the company viable and profitable.
If he can work harmoniously with the CWU to get Royal Mail back on track as a profitable company again, with an incentified, well paid and motivated workforce, then it could do the trick.

Don’t be so naive he’s there to finish of what Thomson started via boards appointment and approval
Gls are the equivalent of Evri abroad
Destroy workers rights straight away
The only incentive will be to see how far they can cut at our expense
Same old story

He certainly is qualified and knows what to do to turn over loss making business into profit. Just please don't be deluded that this guy is coming to give you a hand. He's going to ruthlessly finish the job Thompson started.

He will aggressively slash costs and will try to improve efficiency. This means further watering down of t&c's and potentially further redundancies. This is what brings biggest savings. He has it easier though. ST did all the heavy lifting for him. He beaten cwu, took the flack. New guy has practically unionless workforce and toothless ofcom. So he can continue to ignore agreements and USO as he pleases.

He might keep promises of paying these lump sums and all but next year they will be back for more. Just look at the share price, markets reacted quite well to this change. They expect RM to come back to profitability as soon as next year maybe.

Isn't he now in charge of appointing a CEO to royal mail? The article says he is, so he's in charge of appointing a new boss who he will be the boss of, right?
Maybe they can look at the convoluted management structure and save some money there... Last Sunday I worked there were THREE managers in the building, getting paid to walk around asking us if we wanted some overtime then sitting in an office watching iPlayer all afternoon. Maybe restructuring management would be more efficient than scraping cash from the bottom, as it clearly isn't working for anyone
