Zero tolerance needed on here

Post by Postee2 »

Although these forums should be informative and open to healthy debate, many have become full of personal insults, and derogatory unnecessary language.
I think for it to hold merit going forward, user's need to be banned with a zero tolerance attitude of one strike and you are out.
It's childish and makes trying to read the forums tiresome.

Who do you ban? The person who makes an obviously inflammatory post, or the person who responds to it?

It depends what you consider an inflammatory post. Those who offers alternative viewpoints besides ‘s**t deal, vote no’ aren’t being argumentative for the sake of it. We are offering reasoned, articulate opinions. There are a gang of incoherent Neanderthals on here, who post abuse in every topic, because they don’t seem to comprehend that not everybody thinks the way they do, but never offer anything in the way of constructive debate. All they have in their locker is abuse.

But I still wouldn’t have these poor souls banned. Forums do not exist as some kind of echo chamber. They are there for people to engage with other people, but what some on here don’t seem to be able to understand, is not everyone thinks the same way. It would be a boring world if we did.

I would suggest...
  1. Reviewing the forum's rules page listing what is and is not allowed as different internet forums may or may not allow certain content. Is there a rules page and does everyone know about it? I've not seen it myself.
  2. What sanctions are there for breaking the rules and are these clearly listed with the rules or linked to from that page?
  3. Ensure this forum is clear on what censorship the admins and moderators will enforce for all users - what will be deleted, what will be edited, etc. I say this because when you edit what someone else has posted without the backup of a rules page it can feel like certain users are being picked on and arguments ensue.
Until you know the rules people may occasionally get carried away on certain threads and don't realise they are breaking them. Or they may repeatedly post on here to wind people up and need a warning and then either a timed ban or a lifetime ban.

Without the rules listed and advertised who's to say what is OK or not? If a typed ALL MY POSTS IN CAPITAL LETTERS is it allowed? Is there a rule against it? Does it read like I am shouting or that I just don't know how to disable the CapsLock key?

Sometimes frustrations can boil over ,at times it seems it maybe the only place people can let off steam from a company that do not care and a union who do not listen, all forums have similar problems if you dont let the majority interested be involved we get to a place where people are silenced, yes abusive people should be banned, but not for having a difference of opinion ,saying you dont agree with someone or having a strong opinion yourself is no reason to ban people,my opinion is im voting NO because i think the union have given everything away and gained nothing ,there you go there's my opinion and yes im happy to carry on striking even if that means we go into administration. Now you have a right to respond ,that's how it works.

Hogarthian ridicule seems fair enough to me. if you want zero tolerance why not try some of the other social media platforms.

If your offended just go elsewhere. I’m personally not impressed with the blinkered left wing narrative on here but at the same time those same people can be informative and helpful to.

We are all big boys who live in a big boys world.
"Sticks and Stones" springs to mind and if you get offended and it is really affecting you then don't get involved.
People are all different and react in different ways to things and perhaps some go too far.
But just because you think you have the moral high ground doesn't give you the right to consider other peoples opinions as infantile.
I do try to not get caught up in it all, but probably go to far sometimes.
I am not perfect nor am i always right and there lies the problem, some people don't believe they are ever wrong.
Social media is a modern day pariah which allows anyone who can access the internet a forum for their views.
Not always a good thing.
