2. Performance

Supporting employees to be able to perform at their best whilst at work is essential. Postal
workers are the greatest asset and allowing them to be the creators of value for Royal Mail is
critical for the business’ success. Royal Mail will ensure all our employees, including
managers, understand what’s expected of them and it is Royal Mail’s responsibility to ensure
they have the skills, resources and support they need to succeed, which in turn will allow postal
workers to operate with greater autonomy and be accountable for their work.

To be able to achieve both parties agree culture, trust, language, individual responsibility,
line manager responsibility, fairness and consistency all play a part, along with having
positive conversations and putting the appropriate training and support in place at the right
time.

Both parties will work together to design and implement a suitable and consistent
performance procedure (to replace the 1980 Non-Culpable Improvement process) by end of
July 2023, taking feedback on best practice from ACAS. Prior to the deployment of a new
process Royal Mail and CWU will ensure all managers and CWU reps are fully trained and a
thorough communications plan to employees is rolled out.

Royal Mail’s focus will be to treat individuals fairly and respectfully where performance
issues are identified. Royal Mail’s approach at all times will be to support and coach
individuals to improve and to give reas

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

By July 2023.
I presume they will be looking to remove about 10 000 to replace the 10 000 compulsory redundancies they didn't get.
If the climate was a bank, they would already have saved it.

and how will PDA actuals play a place in this? - you know, the ones which Thompson said that the company don't use. I actually had a line manager come to me a few weeks ago and give me a suggestion on how to organise the casual so we can get out any quicker - we didn't get out any quicker cos he doesn't know how to tie up the absorption

I don't even know why they look at people 'being too slow'....

The vast majority of posties I know....

1. Don't do van checks.
2. Don't take their break.
3. Walk at a good pace.
4. Doorstep.
5. Walk across people's grass.
6. Leave 'deads' to the side for days.

Yeah - these are things they claim they don't want you to do, but they clearly do want you to do...

Managers will happily question you when you bring mail back even though you have gone out there and cut every corner in the book.... I mean, how many MORE corners do they want you to cut, there is nothing left to cut, but they still claim you are too slow.....

It’s crazy but a lot of this is down to the postie. Not every one but the ones that come in nearly for free and take all the shortcuts you mentioned just so they can finish 15 minutes earlier.

Mentally it’ll be difficult for some to adjust now. Sometimes purposely going slower can make the whole day drag and feel like a chore.

I have problems prepping frames due to arthritis etc, am unwilling to kill myself indoors and then go like a train outside (using a trolley as per guidance) Am not coming in early just to finish on time (can't be done anyway) Our current ways are the best, maybe get packets pre-sorted into bags to save time. Always changing for no reason, coz basically they have no idea.

It's starting to look like RM's objective is to have MCs do more of the prep/indoor stuff that DOs do to maximise the time of their shift that delivery staff spend out on the actual deliveries. If RM ever were to get the right machines then they could get letters, flats and maybe even D2D all sequenced (or at least walk sorted), cutting right down on the indoor time in DOs

How much will more new machines cost RM and even if they go down that route it's very unlikely they'll be in place by this summer, when the changes are supposed to commence.

Basically it means an extra 30mins out on delivery each day with no extra pay.

How does a company that close to administration pay for new machines or in fact anything. I know where they could find a few million quid tomorrow but they're not likely to do that are they!

Put the entire board, senior management and shareholders on £0 pay until they rectify the financial mess they have created. Simple way to save a boat load of cash. Not even been considered though has it!

Sorry that was not really in keeping with the topic was it. :d'oh!
