Thompsons view of the talks
i received this on our whatsapp union group yesterday, but i don't know how to post it on here, as im not tech savvy, so i will just type it word for word, its from Simon gobshite Thompson on his workplace forum. so here goes:- ''i watched the CWU live transmission last night-it was less than one hour-after we had spoken to CWU leadership about resolving the dispute- and i said to them ''you need to be very careful about what you now say...''- and my honest take on it- there is a less than 1% chance of getting an agreement on the change we need- i see no change in behaviour- and a change in behaviour is what we need- nothing about the customer, nothing about the change agenda-just 1970s unionism rhetoric- and the great shame is- we have some brilliant CWU reps in the field-who see the need for change, and are great partners-i also note that an increasing number of them-are coming back to work..''

Tony Bouch's reply is especially scathing of him. he's not a very popular bloke to say the least.
i wonder where the board dug him up from?

Re: Thompsons view of the talks
I've noticed as the strikes go on, less and less COMs patting him on the back and parroting his words - we need change ...

Re: Thompsons view of the talks
However there is a closed group on workplace that only COMs can access, as I understand it, so I don't know what's being said on there...

Re: Thompsons view of the talks
This ceo is way out of his depth in this business and has no idea how to deal with the union
Surely he must be realising that his time is up and it’s time for him to resign

……..
I wasn’t going to comment today. I was going to wait for the CEOs posting tomorrow purely for the reason that last Saturday he publicly challenged me regarding a comment I made about him engaging in talks and trying to reach an agreement to which he stated:
‘Time for reflection, you are a senior member of the PEC and so I’ll ask us your post/comment likely to have a positive or a negative reaction in terms of the talks due last Monday’
However, I can no longer not comment because there were talks this week on Monday and Wednesday which you will all know I believed were a positive step forwards and which I believe the CWU entered in with the right spirit and intent to try and progress pay/change together and find a strategy/way forward for talks/negotiations to take place.
Therefore, based on the criticism I received from the CEO, without any doubt whatsoever the announcement made yesterday by him and the board is both cynical and a deliberate attack.
I say this because the announcement yesterday would have had to have been discussed and agreed by the board at the very same time the CWU was in the room trying to find a way forward in the disputes and at no point was it mentioned at those meetings.
I am now in a place where I will no longer not stay silent and will challenge the CEO in every post he makes on this forum in the right way, because I can no longer sit back and accept that his own posts are not having any positive impacts on trying to resolve the disputes.
In addition ask yourself this, the Chancellor of the Exchequer was removed from office yesterday after only 39 days in the role, for what their Party and Prime Minister believed was mismanagement of the public finances and their strategy.
Yet we have a CEO who is overseeing the following:
1. One of if not the most serious IR disputes ever.
2. Seen two national industrial ballots return record votes against the businesses plans and proposals.
3. Served notice on pretty much all national agreements and attacked existing employees terms and conditions.
4. Announced a revised employment model with more owner drivers in PFW and new entrants in RMG working FT on more hours and lesser pay rates.
5. One of the worst performing quality of service results and incurred fines from the regulator
6. Seen the company share price drop to its lowest value ever.
7. Overseen and been in charge which has seen the transformation of a company producing £758 million profits, to now announcing an adjusted operating loss of £219 million (2021/22 was £235m profit).
8. Announced a programme of redundancies which could lead to them being compulsory and ended the terms linked to the MTSF agreement.
The list could go on and on, however rather than the CEO constantly attacking the CWU and it’s members (his employees) it’s time that the Board actually looks in the mirror and see there is only one person responsible for the current position.
Likewise I know numerous managers who are absolutely fundamentally in opposition to how the company is being run. My message to you all is imagine trying to do your roles with somewhere between 5/6,000 less staff next year when you know full well the operation is already at breaking point.
Look at all of the RM proposals and genuinely ask yourselves if you believe what was announced on Friday was a CEO changing his behaviour and whether the overall plans by RM will enhance the companies products and services and the people it employees.
Its time to make a stand against the board and the CEO and call out all of the above and demand the business changes tact!

Re: Thompsons view of the talks
He's taken to posting about instances where's he's been picked on or ridiculed, and subsequently naming and shaming those who react to his posts with laughing emojis. He's absolutely unravelling. As an aside, I genuinely don't understand how a CEO can spend so much time being active on Workplace. He must be the most overpaid social media intern in history.

Last weeks strike we had the best turnout yet - this will just infuriate more people
Just hope there’s even more on the picket lines on Thursday
