Post Strike Workload

Post by Aardvark »

I am slightly confused.

After the first strikes, in my depot, it was pretty chaotic. After the two day strike it was bedlam.

Following Thursday's strike: Friday - pretty much like a normal Friday. Saturday - probably a bit more post than normal but way less packets than I would have expected. People were getting back on time.

From what I can gather the strikes are still well supported. So are the mail centres well behind ? Did the managers do a really good job at delivering parcels? Have customers given up using us ? Have the company found a black hole to shove it all in ?

Any ideas anyone ? Is it bad where you are?

Had all Thursday's mail yesterday and Friday & Saturday mail in today but less parcels than would usually accompany that much mail. Had a few duties not being covered and the managers were getting just the tracked delivered off them but stashing the mail away.

Loads of work left unsorted in my office as well as numerous failed walks , not that Royal Mail care anymore.

Chaos, the place is going to the dogs. With the rolling strikes next month I can't see anything moving.

We had mountains of letters, parcels and packets. 99% of the packets and parcels were tracked so we were told to take them with the mail for that house. Lots of mail left in the frames and at least 25 duties not covered. Its been like that every strike. I think the rolling strikes impact will be immediate and severe. It won’t matter how many managers or agency staff RM employ. Not only because of the backlog but just finding space to put the stuff as each process will never catch up before the next strike. If everyone works just their hours it make it even more effective.

Lots of cut offs and walks left. Letters and untracked parcels left until Monday . D2d dumped everywhere.

Did them NHS letters (which were classed as SDs when really they're not) get touched at all? We had to run them on the iLSM as there's no way our SD locker would have had the capacity to sort them all. I personally think they should have let us run them with the wave 1 sequencing. They're not Saturday Guaranteed so I'm guessing that the COMs would be well within their rights to have had you leave them for Monday

A complete mess.

All Thompson has to do is charge more for letters and small parcels and move us to a 5 day letters service instead of 6. Weekend parcel deliveries. With a 8% pay rise for staff.

Nobody else delivers letters and nobody else can do small parcels as cheap as us..... so charge the customer more!

Yeah, nobody wants to work Sundays, but we have got to find some middle ground.

At least 10 walks stacked up with boxes as high as a man next to them that haven't caught up since previous strikes, the rest of the duties bombarded each with 4 boxes of mech full up, parcels weren't noticeably bad

We had lot's of mail with some walks not clearing. Packets were less than usual. Some companies have said that during the RM strikes they are using other couriers. With that and agency staff that might be why there's less packets.
