How will redundancy work?

Post by Postmangit »

Now it’s been announced, will if it happens be any kind of exercise in every department to see who wants it, or are they going to target certain sections of the business? Asking for a friend. 😆😆😆

They will get killed in the rush at our office if it’s offered.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

This is what the union hasn't factored in, the fact that loads of posties are not fighting for their jobs, they have been waiting for any sort of payoff. They have underestimated Thompson and he has out-flanked them with the offer of VR. This will now quickly unravel in my opinion and the lazy reps who haven't done a days work in years must be terrified.

There are people in my office that have already started applying for jobs and are hoping to be out by Christmas. Some more have said that if RM goes through with all their changes then they would start looking for jobs next year. I imagine it's the same in other offices. All of them have 20 or more years left before retirement and can't see themselves staying in RM until then. On top of that you have the usual number of people leaving through retirement, ill health etc.. Senior staff will jump at VR. So I wouln't worry about being forced out.
And don't forget most offices are running with vacancies.

All depends on the terms they wont be giving us any more then they have to so 20k is about the most you can get, good if your leaving/retiring soon or have a job to go to, not good if have only been employed for a few years and only get a few weeks money.

I doubt anybody with a few years experience will be considering seeking VR, if they want to get out they may as well just start looking for a new job now.

Can see the terms being reduced to somewhere around a years pay which makes it a lot harder decision for senior staff

If I was to be offered VR with only 5 years service, would I get five weeks pay? I read that somewhere but not sure if it's right.

Compulsory redundancy terms:

Employees get:

1.5 weeks’ pay for each full year of employment after their 41st birthday
a week’s pay for each full year of employment after their 22nd birthday
half a week’s pay for each full year of employment up to their 22nd birthday
Length of service is capped at 20 years.

Your employee’s weekly pay is the average they earned per week over the 12 weeks before the day they got their redundancy notice.

Weekly pay is capped at £571. The maximum amount of statutory redundancy pay is £17,130.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
