RMCtv : Genuine Concerns from the view of a Com (COM attacked by a customer)
So a COM posted this on Workplace....
As of yet, not 1 luvvie on there has asked him why he was doing postie work, not the issue I know, but anyway...
Genuine Concerns from the view of a Com
I have to say after another strike day with our cwu colleagues taking industrial action, I have to say I have genuine concerns.
Whilst returning to the delivery office today from delivering some mail I was met by a customer in the car park. Who asked me why the callers office was closed. In a calm voice I explained as per the posters displayed outside our buidling this was due to IA. The customer became more and more aggressive and eventually pushed me to the ground and called me not the nicest of names shall we say. He then went on to kick some cars no damage thank goodness. All because he couldn’t collect his item. Hindsight is a lively thing I should of taken the 739 and got his details but in the heat of the moment and trying to remain calm I just got to safety.
I warned our picket line supervisor who was on the main road of the events and in fairness the picket line and supporters got me back to the unit and ensured the customer had gone.
What struck me about the events of today and further interactions with customers it’s becoming clear that customers are loosing faith with the service of Royal Mail and frustration is becoming obvious. Yes the cwu have support but the beeps and honks were not as many as previous weeks and support is declining.
The pay and changes effect me as a unite grade com[/b]. As changes in attendance time will change my lifestyle as well and yes I do support my fellow friends and colleagues. However the longer this goes on. The more risk You and I have with our futures as less customers = less revenue = less jobs.
Violence is not the way forward but I have to say. It concerns me.
I would also like to remind you all on the
Week of national mental health day to look after yourselves be kind to each other and most important if your struggling reach out.
Update :- no injury was caused just a bit of shock.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

What a load of contrived tosh.
They'll say anything to break morale, and as for mental health awareness, the business normally tries to manage people with that out of the business.

You hear story’s of customers like this in CSP points on a daily basis up and down the country, it’s nothing new but I guess this manager has now seen for himself what it’s like at the coalface,if it’s such an issue that they are shut put a manager on the counter of each one during strike days. I take it the police were called for this serious assault.

But they're willing to send us delivering out in the dark to some of the less salubrious areas of our towns and cities......

Sad!
(Also. You "lose" faith, not "loose." Spellcheck is not your friend.)

He needs tp ask his bosses why the callers offices opening times have been decimated since covid. Oh wait...its to save money. Sod the customer service. Yep we get irrate customers coming to try and pick their parcels up everyday only to find that its shut for most of the day.

Hope this person is OK. It can be scary when someone gets aggressive like that.
Also well done to the picket line for looking after him / her.
Nothing to do with the strike though. We fight, and we'll carry on fighting.

He supports his "friends and colleagues!". Well it can't be us if he was out delivering!

Maximum disruption is the point of industry action. Once all other avenues have been exhausted this is why members are forced into extreme measures.
Unfortunate as it may be that some customers are getting irate and as much as we may sympathise with the growing anger towards Royal Mail as a service it is what will get this dispute settled and the us frontline staff the deal we deserve.
It is why they are back around the table now.
He/she may feel support is waning but that was not my experience.... Horns were tooting from as early as 5.30 all the way through.
Im sorry for the fact the man/woman was physically assaulted but this happens on non strike days to people in the RLE from unhinged members of the public.
