CWU second ballot result

We are very disappointed that CWU members have voted against change. We are losing £1 million a day, and we need to change what we are doing to fix the situation and protect jobs.

Any strike action will mean our losses in the current financial year will increase further and will put jobs at risk. But the CWU continue to avoid meaningful discussions on changes that are needed to retain well paid, permanent long-term jobs. Instead, CWU is leading its members towards an increasingly uncertain future.

We have offered to open our books and share the reality of our financial situation in full. We wanted to meet this week and made our senior executives available but were disappointed the CWU couldn’t make it. Our door remains open and we hope to meet next week. The CWU has a responsibility to urgently recognise the reality of the situation we face as a business, and to work with us to secure the changes needed to protect jobs.
We offered a pay package worth up to 5.5% for CWU grade colleagues, the biggest increase we have offered for many years, which the CWU rejected. This would add around £230 million to Royal Mail’s annual people costs when the business is already loss-making.

The CWU has put forward ideas for change that would cost over £1 billion while not delivering the changes needed to ensure Royal Mail can grow and remain competitive in a fast-moving industry.

Royal Mail can have a bright future, but we can’t achieve that by living in the past. We are operating in a highly competitive market where customers can easily switch to other providers. Customers want more parcels, bigger parcels, delivered the next day, including Sundays, and more environmentally friendly options too. By modernising, we can offer more of what our customers want at a price they are willing to pay, all whilst protecting jobs and the best terms and conditions in the industry.

But today we have taken a step in the opposite direction.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Same old same old from RM. I wonder if these senior people actually believe what Simon tells them to say. It comes across as totally rehearsed , out of touch c**p.

How exactly are CWU's proposals going to cost Royal a Billion that would equate to a £7142 per year pay rise for the 140,000 workers not sure they are asking for a 30% pay rise. The management really are just randomly picking numbers out of the air right now

Where was the 1 million loss a day when royal mail gave away 400 million to share holders? Where was the 1 million loss when royal mail gave £140,000 to Simon Thompson? Why should the people with the least shoulder the burden for this alledged sudden loss? When it's the people with the least that feel the cost of inflation the most.

What exactly are the CWU's proposals?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

At a price our customers our willing to pay as individuals who work and still have to pay all sorts of household bills they all seem to be radically increasing their prices and awarding their staff better than RM sorry I forgot not a key worker anymore
