Had a text message from the union
Hi everyone.
I had a text message on Saturday from an unknown number, message saying it’s Martin here from CWU. Asking if I had received my ballot paper yet. I did reply saying yes I had received it. The reply was please return it ASAP, reply to the message so they can keep track.
I thought the ballot was secret? then why is there a number at the top of the ballot paper? Surely this can be tracked to see how we have voted?
Has anyone else had this text?

Test message is a new thing they are trying. LTB viewtopic.php?style=1&f=87&t=105494
The number on the ballot sheet is not tagged to the member as the letters are massed mailed and it is nearly impossible to identify who a single ballot paper has been sent to . Basically, a pile of letters and leaflets is sorted by a machine into a pile of pre-printed envelopes.
They probably used something similar to this http://youtu.be/unZ9lPteQgk
The number is just a way for the adjudicator to confirm that it is a valid vote

Selhurst it may have been from me ( there were two Martin’s texting ) and we sent texts from Friday to Sunday to 110 thousand members and got thousands of positive messages back and assisted those who had not received a ballot paper.
It is a system which was set up in the RMT dispute with Network Rail.

Not your fault but the whole thing seems to have just caused massed confusion, especially with all the scams going round.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑05 Jul 2022, 08:49Selhurst it may have been from me ( there were two Martin’s texting ) and we sent texts from Friday to Sunday to 110 thousand members and got thousands of positive messages back and assisted those who had not received a ballot paper.

And a dozen LTB's are not going to help the situation with lazy reps and all that.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Had a text message from the union
That is simply not true. I did thousands and the response was very positive thousands of members saying not had they received it they have posted it back with a big fat yes vote.
If this adds 5% to the turn out then that is worth it.

I've not had a text from the CWU, but then again I can't think of a logical reason why they would have my number.

Re: Had a text message from the union
I was repeating what was text to me. I take it as a compliment if that makes me sound like a local rep. You should never lose your base and I still go back to my local office Victoria to hold gate meetings.

It’s a poor strategy I think. Spamming peoples phones isn’t going to make them vote. We would be better concentrating on them face to face.
