Two days extra overtime by now the middle of August and you're sorted.
We've all got bills to pay.
Get a credit card with 6 months interest free, it ain't that difficult.
When this is over use the back pay to clear it off.
A couple of nights delivering pizzas.
There are always options.

People live on £74 a week benefits for long periods of time.
This is short term.

I'm lucky in that I could probably stay out for 6 months if necessary. But that's going to be pretty unusual.

I think the union are just about smart enough to realise that many folk can probably just about manage to strike a day a week and so they'll do rolling action. Something like (and this is just off the top of my head, there may well be 'ideal' days for processing and network to strike to cause maximum disruption):

Tuesday - processing strike
Thursday - delivery strike
Friday - network strike

and then roll those days about week to week.

But if we strike for 1 day wouldn't we just get double next day ?. Isn't an overtime ban better, this place runs on overtime for collections etc, businesses will soon start shouting when they don't get a collection

We would get more the next day, depending a bit on when network and processing went out. But just because it's in the office doesn't mean you have to prep and deliver it all unless you can manage it within your contracted hours.

But single day, or at most two-day action is about all that will get longer term support. Very few people nowadays will be able to, or be prepared to, go out on strike for even a full week, let alone weeks on end.

As I've said before the days of creating huge backlogs in the pipeline are long gone.
Too much of what we do is mechanised now.

A strike now is designed to spook the shareholders because companies like Boohoo and John Lewis will look elsewhere and the business does not want to lose major customers who may not come back.

Overtime bans are a waste of time and achieve nothing, nobody outside the business is interested, Royal Mail save money and if the work doesn't get done it'll just get left for the next shift/duty.

Anyway I'm pretty sure we voted for a strike only, not action short of a strike.

Why would you double after a strike day.

imo it should be all out for as long as it takes and never mind rolling 1 day strikes as they dont work ,as it is s**t or bust with these parasites running the company now as they are really taking the piss out the staff , :evil/mad

It's the threat of the strike to damage share prices and loose custom it makes no difference how many days a week, remember they only care about shareholders and there the ones this will effect or affect don't which lol.

I started a strike pot when Rico was playing up before covid and we were gonna go out so I can stay out for a month or so if needed as it has built up nicely. Also got the £190 that RM paid us last week to add to that.

I think the company are trying to break us thinking we can’t afford to strike for long. The union need to play this right.

Well said, if only others were nearly as committed as that. The problem with many people nowadays is they seem to not understand that standing up for what is right can be painful and are unwilling to suffer in any way for a better outcome.

think the way to go is one day strikes with different sections and a complete overtime ban so that backlogs just get worse as time goes on

You're quite right Flashman. :thumbup I despare at the state of society. Nowadays most people think it's the end of the world if they can't get a Broadband Connection. They have no idea about the struggles our Parents, and Grand Parents went through, and how many people still struggle today.

You only have to look back to the Lock Down to see what a bunch of Selfish, Self-Entitled Assholes we share this country with. Provided they can get a Costa Coffee, a Free Wi-Fi Hotspot and cheap crap from Amazon they're happy as Larry. :cuppa
