RMCtv : Universal Service reform - Will our proposals give me choice in roles? - 'We're trying to get the same amount of mail on less amount of walks.'

Post by POSTMAN »

So I think the simplest way to think about it is what we're trying to achieve, is to get the same amount of mail on less amount walks, which allows us to move everything other than our first class and our parcel operation to an alternate day pattern through the week.

Effectively what that means for us is that our our core walks or our foot walks will be slightly smaller in terms of distance, but they'll have a much higher call rate, today we are at about four out of 10 households that will move to something closer to 7 out of 10 households.

What we will then have is vehicle based duties, whether that's electric vehicles or vans, which will cover our first class and our parcel traffic Monday to Saturday. And I think weekends, as Matt suggested were really important to our customers, and when we did the research.

So effectively that allows us to reduce the number of times we visit addresses throughout the week.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

“Slightly smaller” translates to “no change”
So the impossible deliveries will be made worse.

When we were delivering to 7 out of 10 houses we had 1 loop less and zero big parcels.

If you can't complete 4 in 10, then you won't complete 7 in 10.

I’m looking forward to my new vehicle for my new vehicle based duty, which will be able to scale local authority flats and reach maisonettes which don’t currently have vehicle access. Exciting times 🙄

Whatever changes they make it's not going back to achievable duties. They want zero time at the end of duties to be wasted. Even if that means less efficiency and pissed off post persons. Because the more of the old guard they can get rid of the more new staff they can get and pay them less. And once there's more new than old they'll attempt to force all the old contracts pay down.

This.

You can see it happening like a motorway pile up in slow motion. I think it’s also why management seem to have been sent a memo telling them to back off and not get involved, just deflect, pass it along the line, do nothing, and eventually the ‘old guard’ will leave out of frustration.

As usual we all get upset because they want to change delivery method, i haven't given it a second thought, RM employ us for a certain amount of hrs split over so many days in a given week, if they want to squeeze every last value out of that time it's up to them they are paying for it. But there is a pay off, and we all should do it, don't work a second more than they are entitled to get.
This company runs on o/t and if you choose to do it that's your choice, but don't complain about what they are doing and then endorse it by working over to aid them.
I am sure whoever dreamed up this method of delivery believes it to be a fantastic idea, but with no actual post person getting any input i fancy it's all pie in the sky. They arrogantly believe we mere grunts know nothing and should just do as we are told and get on with it.
Well feck you, i for one will just work to my time and then wander off home and wait for it all to come tumbling down.
On the other hand maybe it will work. :confused
