That is all very well said, but how do you turn around a £700 million loss this financial year? I’m genuinely interested in how you think we can stop the financial slide without changing something. We can’t put prices up any more, we don’t seem able to attract new contracts, so what do we do?

It's also somewhat daft to suggest the walks go back to what they were 25 years ago given the decline in mail. There's no question too much has been added to some duties, but very few question the fact they need to be bigger. It's just by how much.

theres a happy medium where work, parcels, delivery points can be increased along with the extra scanning, sticking stickers on returned parcels, redelivering next day etc

That is a cop out and unrealistic now we operate as a for-profit business. Pre-privatisation I would have agreed with you, but that ship sailed a decade ago and now we do indeed have to worry about the financial state of the business that employs us, if we want more pay and maintained terms and conditions and ultimately a job.

A union only has any power in a privatised industry when there is money being made, and the business is flourishing. We aren’t, so the only power they have is to sink it, which appears to be the direction they have taken by delaying this vote.

It is not in a posties remit to think up ways of turning this company around. You, me and everyone else are nothing more than a number.

Imvho, no they are not simply trying to turn the company around, they have a multi faceted plan to destroy the union, reduce costs, the uso and increase the value of their own position through whatever means necessary.

Come on. You can’t expect to ask for a pay rise, while requesting to do less work for a company leaking money. That has nothing to do with trade unionism it is just delusion. Reality is, the employer and the union have to be communicating and working together, otherwise what is the purpose of even negotiating at all? The only way you have total non-conformity is if the union calls for all out action indefinitely, which will never happen, because

A) It wouldn’t have enough support amongst the workers
B) It would ultimately sink the company
