Feck them and the horse they rode in on!!
As we mull over the latest bit of disinformation from "Tricky Ricky" i can honestly say that as much as RM complain about how we need to change to pay for our pay, how much have we done over the coming on 16yrs since i joined. When i started it was still job and finish and deliverys where, while a lot heavier mail and weight wise, pressure free and most days the offices cleared and coped with o/t available most days if you wanted it, plus you finished early enough in the day to actually do o/t, who is going to want to come 5 oclock when you finish in the future? not me for sure. Then over the years as we have changed (For free most of the times) and RM became privatised and went for the jugular to try to kill off the union and constantly telling us how lazy, underworked and overpaid us posties are we end up here with a halfwit telling us what he believes and using social media to wage war on the workforce and idiots feeding the frenzy by interacting with these fools. Please ignore them and their trolls and stand firm against them. When they bought RM they bought a strong Union as well as a USO which they were all well aware of. But my question is how much more change have we already given them and have we finally reached the point where there is no more to give ?

A agree with a lot of that. I didn’t start much before you and the business model then was awful really. Pay people for 8 hours when they only do 5 and then pay them for overtime if they want it even if they still finish before there finish time.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2023, 11:51As we mull over the latest bit of disinformation from "Tricky Ricky" i can honestly say that as much as RM complain about how we need to change to pay for our pay, how much have we done over the coming on 16yrs since i joined. Don’t get me wrong, I grabbed what I could. It was a job like no other.
But once we sold out to shareholders the writing was on the wall.
Now the company exists to make shareholders money.
The managers now have the pda to use against people who claim their walks are too big and for those whose walks are too big they get bullied until either they get taken off that walk or they find somebody who isn’t up for a fight and takes it all before getting stressed and quitting.
As for how much more will we have to give? I think the LAT parcels and SAs will move to shifts and overtime will dry up. And in those offices working your day off will be rare. Bigger offices may be different and still offer overtime to the favourite few.
I think the company will look to 8-4 type shifts for most and duties will be on the side of being too big. If you fail, it’ll just be the letters that fail. But you’ll take it out so managers can say the office is clear.
The job gets worse every year as far as being a postie goes. But no way will a company run by shareholders ever turn a blind eye to employees finishing early or ghosting or deliberately doing as little as possible.
2012 was the year that was the final mail in the coffin. Every year since then is just more dirt being thrown onto our coffin.
I gave up a long time ago. I do my best for the customers and such but I’m not attached to the company as I used to be. I’ll find another job if more dirt is thrown my way.

In terms of delivery - maybe it will get easier.
Right now 'delay of mail' isn't a thing as mail is delayed all over the place, walks don't go out on people's day's off....
When they add extra work to our frames that means 20 minutes+ a day extra sorting/door2doors/redirections/deads..... which means less time on delivery. Imagine if posties started taking their breaks and that would take another 20 minutes off delivery time. Imagine if posties did proper van checks then that would take another 5 minutes off delivery....
We need to stop working ourselves into the ground.
Who is still not taking their break when Royal Mail are treating you like this. What's going on should be motivation to do the job to rule and say 'screw you' thompson! as well as line managers!

they will not stop until they can get every last thing that the union fought for over the years and we are left with basic rights. they only care about shareholders which was shown at last weeks parliament meeting directors get richer as well as shareholders the one's who help make that profit are given the scraps that are left

Do you think that RM would ever (even if only as a trial) employ people or have duties that are purely doing all the indoor work in a DO?norris9 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2023, 12:45When they add extra work to our frames that means 20 minutes+ a day extra sorting/door2doors/redirections/deads..... which means less time on delivery. Re: Feck them and the horse they rode in on!!
After Thompson saying to the Select Committee last week that parcels are NOT being prioritised over letters, this is now the mantra from the top down, so if this practice is still going on then it IS wilful delay. If your manager is still doing it they need to be reported - just think - would your manager support YOU if you were leaving mail?????? Of course not, as they are only interested in covering their own backsides. Time to get the managers to start earning their over inflated salaries and get the mail delivered. Let's start seeing managers suspended instead of innocent posties!

We used to have a duty, IPS, and when everyone had gone out on delivery the duty would do all the redirections and sort them. I liked that duty as managers left you alone otherwise you couldnt get everything done, of course those were the days when youd get a bollocking for leaving even a Chums catalogue inSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑22 Jan 2023, 22:36Do you think that RM would ever (even if only as a trial) employ people or have duties that are purely doing all the indoor work in a DO?norris9 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2023, 12:45When they add extra work to our frames that means 20 minutes+ a day extra sorting/door2doors/redirections/deads..... which means less time on delivery. Would that duty have done all the A+ (now called Route Planner) updates?pieoftheday wrote: ↑23 Jan 2023, 09:19We used to have a duty, IPS, and when everyone had gone out on delivery the duty would do all the redirections and sort them. I only covered that duty occasionally but I dont recall doing that, just IPS , perhaps some prepping of a walk and then doing redirections and pulling out the out of date ones. I think there was around 80 duties back then so it filled full time hoursSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑23 Jan 2023, 09:28Would that duty have done all the A+ (now called Route Planner) updates?pieoftheday wrote: ↑23 Jan 2023, 09:19We used to have a duty, IPS, and when everyone had gone out on delivery the duty would do all the redirections and sort them. You often find this kind of work, not a Duty though, is often done by Posties who are on Back to Work plans (recovering from illness or operations) where they may not be up to delivering a Full Duty outdoors. They'll do IPS and prep PT duties where the Duty holder comes in later. They'll often throw off the Households when everyone's left the building.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑22 Jan 2023, 22:36

In a Business that was run by competent management you'd think this kind of duty might exist. Perhaps being done by Older Staff, who are burnt out, who just want a few hours work a day? The Business would retain all those years of experience & knowledge
It's RM work in RM time but there's not normally enough to fill a Full Shift so they'll normally knock off early.

Another thing they could potentially do, keep the walk logs up to date (I bet around the country probably 90%+ of all walk logs will be massively out of dateDorset Plodder wrote: ↑23 Jan 2023, 12:34You often find this kind of work, not a Duty though, is often done by Posties who are on Back to Work plans (recovering from illness or operations) where they may not be up to delivering a Full Duty outdoors.
