The EVs cause huge environmental damage with the mining of the rare earth metals required for the batteries (which I believe can't be recycled) and are only as clean as the power source used to generate the electric to charge the batteries

Well I never thought I would agree with you but give a thought to these poor people being sent down mines with poor pay to garner this material and yet still uses fossil fuels to generate/Charge it not so green is it.

We ain't even got enough room in yard to park the s**t heaps you could loosely describe as vans now. If each has to be hooked up to mains electricity overnight theres no chance. And what if there's a power cut overnight? Do we all get the day off next day?

I just speak my mind, sometimes people will agree sometimes not. That's what makes the world go round. Zero emissions when it comes to EV's really is one of the biggest smoke and mirrors stunts ever pulled though.

Sorry but what a load of tosh! As far as him trying to work out cost/saving for a large fleet business.
I’ve not seen his other videos but I bet he’s part of anti-EV brigade

The first 300 (possibly even less) would’ve been a trial to see how they perform in different environments and use cases.
City, rural, fat, undulating terrain, different climates, various loads and other requirements.

Secondly, funding model.
Does he really think we pay anywhere near retail?

Where did het the 100 mile/day figure from, vast majority of our delivery vans do significantly less than that.
A deep rural might be doing somewhere near that but most are significantly less.

Servicing is cheaper and the stop start nature of our town deliveries will be better suited to electric.

Finally, the business case. I don’t think there’s any suggestion by the business that it was meant to be cheaper. If we’re looking to reduce our emissions, particularly as we have the largest fleet then of course we have to invest and there comes a cost. We’re not changing all the vans at once, but I think average fleet turnover for delivery vans is icing at 7-12 years. As and when it’s time to replace each one, it make sense to go electric, why wait until 2030 (or whatever the year is) when new cars will have to be EV.

But for the average YouTuber to come up with that codswallop of business case on MS Excel… lame. Broke! Lmfao

Increasingly, the battery chemistry being developed and in use is a) to use less material that comes from conflict zones or those that use child labour (cobalt from DRC being one example) and b) batteries that can be recycled. They either have a second use (Nissan & LG has been doing this for years where they become home batteries) or the materials can be recycled or safely disposed of.

It’s not a silver bullet but it’s bout tailpipe emissions.
The fight for how the stuff comes out of the ground and the treatment of workers is still ongoing.
But some of the huge mine pits have very little manual labour. The ginormous dumper trucks they use have batteries that recharge whilst descending downhill to bottom of the pit (like cars do with regenerative braking).

As for generating electricity, take a look at our grid and 30-40% is renewable. On a good day we can use no coal at all. This is going to get increasingly better as we invest in more renewable sources. Yes it’s not reliable or always there when you need it, but the direction of travel is positive.

Finally, mine lithium once and it can be used for 10s of years and travel 10s of thousands of miles.
Drill for oil and it’ll be used once and poof, it’s gone, smoke.

Edit: also to add, take the status quote which it seems many on here prefer. The distribution of energy (petrol/diesel) requires moving the oil via tankers from thousands of miles away, to our refineries. From refineries then by road tankers to fuel stations. We then each to drive to them as and when required. With electricity, the distribution network is already there (albeit charging infrastructure not quite) to the extent you charge from home.
