Is using a flare at a strike a no-no?
Someone lit a flare during a rousing speech on the picket. Nothing special, just one flare.
All the pickets have been peaceful, pleasant chat and banter, we're stood roadside, so not even blocking the staff entrance. Virtually no one has crossed at our depot.
Afterwards management brought it up "I can't believe a flare was used" and making out it was a seriously bad thing.
What's wrong with using flares? Do they have some link with football hooligans or intimidation or something?

Technically lighting a flare in public is illegal but whether plod would do you is another question.cheerful wrote: ↑29 Oct 2022, 18:10Someone lit a flare during a rousing speech on the picket. Nothing special, just one flare.

Quite worrying that someone needs to ask a question like this.
Fireworks =fun
Flares =distress and signalling

Flare are classed as pyrotechnics.
They can cause problems if used incorrectly, once we were on exercise and a flare set some dry grasses on fire we had to stop ex, unload our rifles before dealing with it.

There have been suspensions due to flares, why oh why are there a very small minority who think they are untouchable? One more sacked = one less redundancy.
Unbelievable.
