STRIKING DURING THE RUN UP TO CHRISTMAS

For the past few years, my unit has barely managed to cope with the volume of mail we received from mid November onwards each year.

There is no annual leave taken during the 4 weeks before Christmas, so we have everyone available to complete special duties to cover dropped bags, and to cover extra parcel duties. Even with those additional staff in place, we have not cleared all of the mail on a daily basis, in fact, it's been utter chaos at times... and the overtime claimed has been massive. When the unit had 3 new sick we failed full walks.

It will not take much for the operation to stop functioning as soon as the rolling strikes start.
I remember pillar boxes being blocked with wood, and post offices refusing to take parcels at certain points in the past, the system will be jammed up quickly and everything will stop.

Where do we go from there? Because any backlog running up to Christmas cannot be cleared before Christmas.

With the cost of living crisis, my gut feeling is that this Xmas isn't gong to be anywhere near as busy as normal

thats not our problem let the board and thompson deal with it , as it was thompsons doing last xmas failed due to piss poor revisions .

Our aim is to create the biggest problems for RM in the run up to Xmas. How or rather if they solve them is their problem. The bigger the problem the more pressure is put on ST.

Absolutely. Christmas is recession-proof. Nobody is cutting back there.

It'll be busier than ever. Worry about it all in January as usual.
