Zareena Says

Zareena ' I genuinely am going to cringe when I read this' Brown : The Peeps Officer

So I start by saying, first of all, we're in the proposal that we've got, we're absolutely aiming to achieve a balance and I use that word very purposely.

You know that balance is about really recognising what you've just described and the great work that all of our people do.

But there's also a balance in terms of making sure that we are able to offer you know industry leading pay and benefits. and you know Simon talked about, you know what not wanting to and we definitely won't move towards being an employer in terms of the gig economy.

So we need to balance it from that perspective, but also to be able to remain competitive as well.

So look, it is more than, you know, what a number of many employers are doing and, you know, just for some reference points, if we look at key workers in particular, so um nurses, teachers, the police force , etcetera, then pay ranges from two to three percent and if we look more closely in terms for The Post Office example, there's been a pay freeze and, you know, and two percent.

So you know what's really important, you know we do recognise the where inflation is, we do recognise the pressure that that provides you know creates for everybody and the challenge that that causes it also creates a real challenge in the business.

So we have to be able to do something that is affordable, we talked about the need for change associated with that because it has to be you know has to be affordable, so, creating that right balance between all of those things is what we're trying to do, so ultimately that we are able to you know recognise and do something today, but also get that balance. so we are able to secure jobs and have the future that we all want going forward.
# We have the right amount of inflation-just not at the right-time

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Well Zareena how about we go back to looking at Simons example of Doris on the checkout, Supermarket staff have been getting well above 2-3%, in fac t some of their delivery drivers are now pretty close to us on hourly rate. The majority of the example you use are staff who are having their pay capped as government policy. Not a nice way to reward them after working through the pandemic and they certainly deserve more. As for the Post Office maybe they've got one or two compensation claims to worry about at the moment !!!!

Yeah it's like they can't quite tell you exactly what they trying to say, stutters and jumbled sentences you would think people at the top of the pyramid would articulate better even to try and persuade some of the workforce, this vauge s**t is a disaster for them.

1. Zareena says: The Police Force, Nurses, Teachers are getting a 2 to 3% pay rise.

I say: They are all in the public sector. Royal Mail is in the private sector and massively profitable. If we look at the National Minimum Wage that's gone up 6.6%.

2. Zareena says: Royal Mail are not heading for the gig economy.....

I say: I saw an advert the other day for an 'owner-driver' job at Royal Mail. What's that all about? it was the first I'd heard about it. Is this a thing in some depots across the country?

3. Zareena says: The pay rise needs to be affordable.

I say: What is meant by affordable? the business is making almost a billion a year. Royal Mail increased the price of 1st class stamps by 12% earlier this year and has warned that they will increase prices further. So Royal Mail can charge the customer 12% with further rises to come, but can't afford to at least match the National Living Wage increase of 6.6%?

Obviously I am just focusing on 1st class stamps here, 2nd class has also gone up 3% and due to go up further. People can educate me whether or not other products have gone up in price recently or not. I would assume they have.

every year when RM announce the profits how come D2D money is never mentioned in the profits. i am sure someone on here posted an answer to a ''freedom of information'' question asking how much was made annually from D2D monies. and the answer was over a billion pounds. may have been teebs or postman, but i am certain it was posted on here by someone. if this is the case why is this money not considered as profit and used towards any pay rise. ...anyone?

What makes you think the money earned from D2D isn't included in the overall picture?
How could it not be?
I think it is.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

A FOI request is made to government organisations not private ones like RM, so your recollection of it being
a FOI request may not be accurate, however perhaps the information was from company report?

The latest RM annual report (20-21), p73 says that the revenue (not profit) from 'Advertising' letters was 407 million for
the year 20-21 but I can't see/can't be bothered to dig deeper to see if they say what the actual
profit from that advertising letters was (if that's what they class D2D as - the letter categories are Advertising, Business,
Consumer and Small Business). So as the revenue was 407m I can't see how a profit of a billion pounds
could be made.

Teebs put the link on here Aug 5th 2020, i dont know how to repost the link, but it reads unaddressed mail £2,603,000,000. The thread is "how much do RM make annually from D2D. so if thats true they make 2.6 BILLION from unaddressed mail. Can't be true surely....can it?
