Always 1 do gooderShadedpostie wrote: ↑13 Apr 2023, 22:26Most postman just don't like change. It's just that simple. It's a repetitive job with a simple schedule, you do your round you come home. Anything that changes within that bubble that's when the fear and anger comes in. Hence the mentality of "if I'm going down, I'm taking you with me." They are far more capable than they realise but they settle for this job that continuously treats them like dirt and will cause them to feel more worthless. It's a hard cycle to break out of, I've been there before in past jobs. It's finding that strength to leave that unfortunately I don't think most of these people do. Me personally, I no longer have any attachments to this job, in fact it's already stopping me doing the things I enjoy since wiped after work and rent has increased due to inflation so going to have no choice in the matter. The well for overtime is completely gone since just leaving s**t in frames now or giving it the runners be it for free or ghosting. Just waiting on what decision comes out tomorrow, if union accepts the offers, will take the lump sum and leave then, back pay would be brilliant. If striking, will just look elsewhere.

Never a truer post. Why should we fight for people who may join RM in the future? It's different for the current workforce who have signed contracts and have given their working lives to the company. In fact, my opinion is if you have been at a company for 10+ years then you should be rewarded. This "two tier" workforce sounds so gimmicky...but the reality is, newstarters have a choice to look elsewhere or make peace with themselves and accept this "two tier" workforce.post6675 wrote: ↑14 Apr 2023, 11:40new starters should not be a sticking point that is just the union trying to save future subs. new starters can see the t and cs and pay and decide if they want to do the job or not. not so much solidarity about with the people who want to strike and burn the company down and screw all the colleagues who need this job. a massive amount of selfishness has been hidden under the umbrella of the 'solidarity' facade most are out for themselves
Agree that this is all about the CWU protecting future subs, all in the name of solidarity. Remember, they are a business too and not a charity

The union has never been about pulling the drawbridge up on the next generation of workers.
If that is allowed to happen it weakens everyone's position and incentivises the company to get rid of the 'legacy grade' staff. So everyone loses.

I agree, however:
They already start on less money.
They have an inferior sick pay policy.
They were put in an inferior pension scheme and nobody batted an eyelid.
Let's not pretend that we don't already have a 4 tier workforce.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

You can’t deny he’s not right, lots of companies have incremental pay scales, when I started 43 years ago I was on less money than the regular staff my wages went up with serviceclashcityrocker wrote: ↑14 Apr 2023, 13:52I agree, however:

Brand new vans, huh, don't know where you work. And if so it's called investing in the business, something which by the state of our vans is very much overdue.arsenalbob wrote: ↑14 Apr 2023, 13:05What they’re offering is nowhere near inflation. They plead poverty yet we’re all getting brand new bigger vans. It’s laughable and we have to carry on fightingrambo1 wrote: ↑13 Apr 2023, 22:07Seriously, how many people do you know who have had an inflation matching pay rise? Apart from pensioners.arsenalbob wrote: ↑13 Apr 2023, 18:2010% pay rise over 3 years is an insult whichever way they dress it up. Who in their right mind would vote yes for a real terms pay cut? Surely it’s time now to announce a one week walkout followed by work to rule and an overtime ban. Let’s get serious about it. No more pussyfooting.

Whoever runs the CWU Twitter account (Chris Webb?) doesn't know what 24 hours means.
People are already impatient and they come out with a 'within 24 hours' statement and then announce nothing.

I’m starting to think they’ve adopted RMs tactic of trying to break us so we just accept whatever crap they throw our way.
They know full well people are struggling with this and to say they’ll have a full update within 24hrs then give nothing, not even an update that it might be later is absolutely shameful nevermind unprofessional.
