Even people on this forum cannot interpret ‘04:00 on Day A to 04:00 on Day C’ as actually meaning “irrespective of whether you work Earlies, Lates or Nights, you are on strike on Day A and Day B… (not Day C)”
So maybe whoever inputs Royal Mail’s social media comms made the same mistake and failed to check with management prior to posting??
Now is not the time to turn on ourselves.
CWU have learned from past disputes. If Royal Mail are serious about NEGOTIATING, not imposing things, they now have three weeks to come up with an acceptable deal or face big problems. And CWU members have this week and 3 more weeks with no loss of payin order to gear-up for a potential 4 days loss of pay.
CWU are now going to send us voting papers with two questions
1. Do you accept Royal Mail’s pay & strings proposal? Yes/No
2. Do you have confidence in Royal Mail’s CEO, Simon Thompson? No/Yes
The results will be announced the day before RM present their half-year results for 2022/23 to the Stock Market (November 17th).
“Hi guys, we’re losing £1m a day, our workforce have no confidence in our CEO and said no to our pay offer. Wanna buy our shares?”

If I understood it correctly , if we accept this deal as it is there will be compulsory redundancies .chrisj wrote: ↑01 Nov 2022, 23:35This is some sort of diversion, surely?
The deal is pants given what we have lost so far and the aggro - why waste money putting it to a ballot without trying to improve on it or have something (an alternative deal not ideals) for the members to judge the deal against?
There is actually a risk that the ballot might undermine (not better) the original ballots in terms of number?
There are people willing to take the Royal Mail deal just to stop losing money on strikes and to stop the anxiety and stress associated with this dispute.
It appears the CWU are washing their hands off the situation? Pontius Pilate comes to mind (Jesus or Barrabas - you decide).
* More strikes, more loss of money; more percentage increase needed - on the money side anyways... Vicious cycle! Or will it be a dead spiral?

Re: RMCtv : Futher strike dates announced by CWU:Thursday 24th November, Friday 25th November, Wednesday 30th November and Thursday 1st December.
Main points of this ‘deal’ as briefed to COMS/managers:
• Forecast losses of up to £450m this year. NOT the £1,000m (£1bn) Simon Thompson has recently told us and the media
• 10,000 redundancies is scaremongering. They think they can achieve the equivalent of cutting 4,000-5,000 jobs by not replacing people who leave/retire, cutting temporary staff & some cuts to overtime
• Revisions to be implemented by June 2023. Some offices will lose more people (in percentage terms) than others
• Reduced VR terms… but no details of how much less
• Possible compulsory redundancies if not enough volunteers
• consultation with union about changing MTSF in respect of VR terms. Travel money payment terms are not being changed
• Any office needing more than 20 job losses would be required to undertake full consultation as required by law. (Note, If the full legal consultation is not carried out properly, people made redundant could take legal action against Royal Mail)
• In any office where they want less than 20 redundancies, the document says ‘there is no legal obligation to consult with the union
but out of courtesy, we will keep them informed’. (Translation: we are going to sideline the CWU)

My under standing is, it will be a show of hands, totally pointless, if it is not a postal ballot it carries no weight legally, if it is not a postal ballot, calling off the strikes to hold the ballot is simply bollox.goneaway wrote: ↑02 Nov 2022, 06:10The reference in last night's conference call was to a "workplace ballot", not postal ballot. But what does a workplace ballot mean? Is this simply a show of hands following a workplace meeting? Or a secret ballot, with ballot papers being completed and put in a ballot box after such a meeting? I don't think this means a postal ballot, like what would be required for a strike ballot. Can anyone from the CWU clarify?Surreypostie wrote: ↑01 Nov 2022, 23:16Do you have confidence these postal ballots will be dispatched, delivered and returned in time? Do you know what is going on in delivery offices up and down the country with the levels of vacancies and walks not going out for days?

It's for indicative purposes only though if the result was a lot closer than expected then presumably the union would be duty bound to have a re-run by way of a postal ballot to avoid doubt. Don't see that scenario happening so a moot point surely. For me, the removal of the 2 days is a reference to Thompson's insinuation that the unions response would be the use of '1970s levers', think they've outmanouevred him on both of the above fronts to be honest.

Do you actually believe that or are you being sarcastic?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The former, doubt Thompson was expecting such a measured response

Thompson wants us to pour over his latest generous deal, good on CWU for giving us the opportunity to rightly consider its merits and pass indicative judgement.

Basically has every single strike previously put forward (inc. cyber monday) now been cancelled and replaced by these two 48hr strikes above?...with the prospect of more strikes being agreed for December when the PE next meet?

All these changes are being pushed in by executive action , once there in what's the point of striking it'll be too late he's got what he wanted.
A meaningless show of hands if staff have confidence in simon , he doesn't give a f**k if we do or not , neither do vesa or the other major share holders.
Surely if sunday working is to come in the union should be pushing for everyone to be on a 4 day week so if your working this weekend you know your off the following one .
The union has proved itself to be nothing more than a noisy toothless dog .
