Hi, I'm Adrian Porter, the director of rewarding performance here at the royal mail group.
Understandably, there has been a lot of speculation on workplace and other forums at the moment about the pay talks.
I've seen people expressing concern that there is a plan to take all allowances and supplements away.
I want to say up front that there are no plans to remove all allowances and supplements, it is simply not true, also, I want to point out that at this stage, we haven't actually shared any details with the CWU on this or other elements of the pay deal.
It's really important that we do this first because that's how we've agreed to work together, and we want to stick to that agreement, plus we really value their input.
What it does mean is that we can't yet say what it might mean for you personally, so please bear with us.
What we can say now is that we would like to simplify our approach to pay, our aim is to create a pay structure that is simpler, more consistent for all our employees and make pay easier to understand.
For example, currently around half our front line delivery employees do not get any allowances at all, and that is what we will be discussing with the CWUas part of the talks.
If we are going to make changes to some allowances and supplements, we do not see that there is a one size fits all solution, and we will look to agreed solutions with the CWU that are not financially detrimental to you.
These opportunities could include consolidation, lump sum buyout, simplification, or simply retain them as they are.
So the three things to take away from this message are number one, we are definitely not going to remove all allowances and supplements, number two, we want to talk to the CWU about this first, and lastly, we will keep you regularly updated on how the talks are progressing.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Payrise
Surely they cant be counting the delivery supplement as an allowance as they have said that half of frontline delivery employees get no allowances at all.....and we all, or at least a lot more than half do, get thatworld class male wrote: ↑28 Apr 2022, 22:34but yet he won't say what allowances/supplements they are after?POSTMAN wrote: ↑28 Apr 2022, 21:36Adrian ' Reward & Performance Director' Porter

Re: Payrise
My wife has just been given a 6% pay rise.Didn't ask for it and no strings attatched.
One day my hope is that we don't have to go through this same thing every few years regarding trying to get a decent payrise, but ever the optomist hey.
Rinse and repeat,

Re: Payrise
It costs them to put mail on freight aircraft as every other company diesSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑28 Apr 2022, 06:59The moving of work from air over to rail and road, I can see happening anyway, irrespective of any pay deal. It must cost RM a fortune to send stuff around the UK by air. When it does happen, that'll be the cause of the later starts
3 times more expensive than what they usually do fill up commercial flights
And when scheduled flights cancelled or late they pay a much reduced fee or nothing at all
Using air isn’t going away
There at it

Re: Payrise
The fact of the matter is lot's of poor and oppressed workers have had to open their own eyes to fight the might of capitalism which deprives them of a living wage/income and in the day's and year's to come so will the whole of the UK population. Because of the greed and self serving elite who pay NO TAX and we service their debt to society with bounce loans that we as a nation will pay back for years to come while the elite suppress us all same old s**t just another clown in charge!

Re: Payrise
I worked in an industry for 20 years before joining royal mail. Back when the minimum wage was around £3 an hour I was earning £6.50. over the duration of that career we started on 5% payrise per year. Slowly that reduced and by the time I changed over it was a minimum wage job.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑04 Apr 2022, 10:27It's not even possible. Even at 3% inflation per year, a wage would need to increase by 80% over 20 years just to match that. SO someone with no pay rise after 20 years is on about half the wage he started on in real terms.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑03 Apr 2022, 16:13That clearly isn't true.my old man never had a payrise in 20 years at the private company he worked for

Re: Payrise
We'll see. Last time this happened distribution drivers got a pay rise through allowances at the expense of the delivery staff doing the donkey work. Remember when we lost out on D2D money? I lost about £18 a week. Whats fair about that?
