Plus if you are ill and feel better in 3 days you'd probably be more inclined to say fxxck it I'll take a week.
That already happens.
People play the system, thats why they want change.

Yes but its encouraging the majority now, people took 1 day even 2 days off,if your gonna have to be off for 3 days you might as well take the other 2 days off and have a week.
and we all know who started the fire don't we Simon.
Here we go again:
Simon Thompson, Dave Ward, intense talks, getting bored
Picket lines, cancelled planes, going back to using trains
Andy Furey, Terry P, NCI, and legacy
Updated, backdated, no sick pay for aches and pains
We didn't start the fire
It was always burning since VESA started circling
We didn't start the fire
No we didn't light it but we tried to fight it
mate, why are you even a postie - there's a better calling for you out there in the entertainment world - very good
This is the best job he could get since writing songs for the Barron Knights dried up

4 single day absences in a 12 month period = stage one. You're honest about it and only take time if unwell.
3 by 4 day absences in the same period = nothing. Playing the system.
Ergo if you're sick for a day might as well take 4 days as a period of absence is a period of absence
Personally know four people who have a week off sick the same days every year and nothing is questioned.
All sickness is Genuine.
Just happens to be Cheltenham Gold Cup week. (Cough)
Yet you have people who are in distress, especialy with mental health who are hung drawn and quartered by management for taking a days absence with telephone harassment.
One of the major drivers for disengenuis sick absence is Royal Mail's inflexibile and outdated annual leave system.
A lot of this absence is actually things like last minute weddings, funerals of friends, appointments and unforseen family commitments.
If you have a flexible annual leave system and people know they won't get a flat refusal every time they ask then those one, two and three day absences decline dramatically.
Unfortunately managers are hard wired to say no first then check afterwards so members will not ask knowing it will flag up the fact that they need this time off and look suspicious if they then suddenly go sick.
The introduction of an ad hoc leave request option on the app seems to have made no difference to the overall mindset of management.
If we're supposed to be moving towards a more flexible business then we also need a far more flexible leave system, the idea that you have to book annual leave up to 18 months in advance and that is then carved in stone is laughable in 2022.
I think when they say "The first three days would be on statutory sick pay rates" they are talking about the company paying you at the same rate as SSP would, so the £99 per week divided by 5 for each of the first three days, so £20 a day?
If that is right you'd be losing £50 a day.
Plus, the pay rise offer itself is a total insult.
Barristers got 15%. Even supermarkets gave 10% to their staff and they didn't have to accept a shafting along with it.
So we get 5.5% in total (and a lump sum of about £400) when inflation has been more than 10% this year and then a pathetic 1.5% next year when inflation is likely to top 10% again.
In return we have to take a sick pay shafting that could cost some people hundreds through no fault of their own and a number of other major changes which will simply make the job not worth doing for some.
Total insult.

If they take the £20 delivery supplement away that is a 5% cut so the 2% we were already forced to take, then a 3.5% which will be offset by losing 5% from losing the supplement (so 3.5% - 5%), which is actually a 1.5% cut so (2% - 1.5% = 0.5%) which is HALF A PERCENT in real terms this year BUT HEY GUYS LUMP SUM! (which would be just under 500 minus tax so pretty much £400) and then a pathetic 1.5% next year when inflation is likely to top 10% again.

They have not proposed taking the delivery supplement away
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
Not guesswork, simple economics if a company is losing a million a day and cannot sustain its fiduciary duties and statutory obligations.
And not talking years either
Fire and Rehire as an example is a modern phenomenon on inferior terms if the economic sustainablility of the business is called into questions. Again a million a day loss justifies that.
You have P&O, TESCO and British Gas engineers as a source of reference
The government would keep Royal Mail going under state ownership until it could be broken up and sold off, on inferior terms and conditions to make it attractive with investors
No such thing as simple economics otherwise why did Adam Smith say never privatise a natural monopoly
Deutsch Bank in simple economics is insolvent but because it has debt assets equal to the total GDP of the planet its allowed to create money out of nothing.
There's so much misinformation on here it's ridiculous.
I overheard someone at work saying they're taking the delivery supplement away and we end up with a pay cut.
Actually had a conversation with another who was adamant RM had taken the 2% payrise back out of wages so that's not included in any pay deal.
Tried to explain and he clearly didn't get it, so I left it- he still thinks we haven't had a 2% pay rise already.
People will think what they believe to be true no matter what.
A range of family friendly duty options with earlier finish times.
If these do in fact exist I'd expect demand to far exceed supply of them - there is a whole host of family related reasons, not just the obvious ones, that people want to keep the current finish times for.
Even they would start later as the mail would arrive at inward MC later, so get processed later and then go out to DOs later, so all start and finish times in DOs, as well as night shifts in MCs will be later
Welcome to just 2 shifts Lates and Nights with a skeleton Earlies/Saturday Shift with Lates 4 to Midnight and Nights Midnight to 8 am not sure what those who rely on Public Transport are meant to do but then that's their problem not Royal Mail's
The CWU leadership rightly say the only solution for Royal Mail is to re nationalise but have then managed in every single media interview and dialogue with its members to say the square root of f**k all on the subject.
When revenues and the £1million a day baloney come up then the farcical regulations on down stream access should at least be highlighted and compared to the massive increase in the cost of stamps for the general public etc etc but no now they want to present an alternative business plan to shareholders like their on Dragons Den.
If we are to rely on resolving this dispute in purely " business terms " then its all over bar the shouting
