No, strike once. And strike decisively for a week. Stop pissing about with daft pointless ineffectual odd days.
No better pressure on the CEO than the mail stopping entirely.
Well at least that's an opinion that I can respect. Although your posts come across as quite contradictory. One minute you're concerned about the quality of service and that you're losing money, next your very militant and want a whole weeks strike, then your worried the CWU will get us a shite deal!
I suggest you let our Negotiators do their job. They may not get everything we want but they'll get a damn sight more than ST wants to give us!
I think I've been clear.
I'm only worried about losing money for no reason, which I feel like I have. I'd rather have lost a full weeks' pay in one hit and saw some effect.
Any deal the CWU do with Thompson will be a shite deal.
In my opinion, Thompson is hoodwinking the CWU and has no intention of taking any backward step.
Dave Ward will get mugged into calling off the planned strike action on the strength of this perceived round of talks.
Our power was to halt the flow of the mail completely, and to force the business into drastic action which would start with ousting Thompson.
It's not militant. It's firm decisive action.
Remember, this is not a normal dispute. Thompson is not a reasonable CEO.
Our office used to get 3hr15 for doing half a delivery . Today we were told you only get paid for the time it takes. No longer do overtime myself but it’ll hit some of the regulars.
Still wonder how/if we all work for the same company. Set amounts of doing splits went 10 years ago in our place when 'all paid hours to be worked' first came in. Terribly weak management to stop in one part of the country and let it carry on with a nod and a wink down the road. Same as Job and Finish an office literally 5 miles away from us still has this as part of the office structure yet if we get back 15 minutes early we get sent back with local parcels or are made to do other frames dead letters.

My initial reaction is that this is good news - but time will tell.

Yes totally agree, & it's about time. The BT2010 agreement that stated - All paid hours to be worked, is only 12 years old!
Angela noon the financial sage at RM, has also recently stated that overtime is the biggest cost to the business.
She clearly refers the issue to be the responsibility of the unit manager/s.
They are the ones who have allowed it to happen, it's not the fault of individual posties.
My observations & experience of 20+ years in the business, is poor, inadequate, inept, & lazy office management: cuppa

Surely the most cost to the business is a totally deaf and blind CEO and a group of nodding minions who nod and agree with him and roll along on his heavy train

You say that but in most other jobs you will get time and a quarter or time and a half for overtime.
Our rate of pay goes down.
The business saves money by relying on overtime instead of fully staffing most offices.
Their obsession with clawing back money from half walks or collections on docket is short sighted.
If you don't dangle the carrot anymore see what happens.
This obsession with tracking your every move is backfiring already.... productivity will go down. Job and knock was and always will be the best method to get the most out of the staff.
Their biggest cost surely must be sickness.
But I might be wrong.

More likely the bosses of the COMs/DOMs who've taken so many normal hours out of offices

You’re not wrong mickey, you’re spot on.
A sensible company incentivises its staff.
Royal Mails desperately poor reactionary management always sees them scramble about looking to “claw back”, when at their rate of pay they should be providing innovative and inspirational modern work practices.
Always a month behind other companies, always looking for a negative and always blaming everything on their employees being overpaid and underworked.
It’s shoddy, lazy leadership and it has been going on for decades.
