Legal notice does not have to be served to Royal for the 24th until 10th November. We currently on the 1st. It was more important to inform you. However the PE was still debating and agreeing the action just minutes before Dave and Andy had to go on Facebook live. The easy option was to cancel or delay the FB live but we did not we wanted to keep you updated

This is some sort of diversion, surely?

The deal is pants given what we have lost so far and the aggro - why waste money putting it to a ballot without trying to improve on it or have something (an alternative deal not ideals) for the members to judge the deal against?

There is actually a risk that the ballot might undermine (not better) the original ballots in terms of number?
There are people willing to take the Royal Mail deal just to stop losing money on strikes and to stop the anxiety and stress associated with this dispute.

It appears the CWU are washing their hands off the situation? Pontius Pilate comes to mind (Jesus or Barrabas - you decide).

24 and 25 November ( Thursday and Friday )

30 and 1st December ( Weds and Thursday)

The PE will meet on Thursday to agree further strike action from 3rd December up to Christmas Eve.

Do we know that for a fact?
Even people on this forum cannot interpret ‘04:00 on Day A to 04:00 on Day C’ as actually meaning “irrespective of whether you work Earlies, Lates or Nights, you are on strike on Day A and Day B… (not Day C)”
So maybe whoever inputs Royal Mail’s social media comms made the same mistake and failed to check with management prior to posting??
Now is not the time to turn on ourselves.
CWU have learned from past disputes. If Royal Mail are serious about NEGOTIATING, not imposing things, they now have three weeks to come up with an acceptable deal or face big problems. And CWU members have this week and 3 more weeks with no loss of pay in order to gear-up for a potential 4 days loss of pay.

CWU are now going to send us voting papers with two questions
1. Do you accept Royal Mail’s pay & strings proposal? Yes/No
2. Do you have confidence in Royal Mail’s CEO, Simon Thompson? No/Yes

The results will be announced the day before RM present their half-year results for 2022/23 to the Stock Market (November 17th).
“Hi guys, we’re losing £1m a day, our workforce have no confidence in our CEO and said no to our pay offer. Wanna buy our shares?”

The reason for cancelling the rolling strikes has been made very clear in other threads so check them if you still don't understand. It was a considered reaction to RM's threat of legal action which would have paused ALL IA while the courts assessed it for who knows how long.

8 days lost to IA followed by RM having a strike free few weeks just makes the loss so far sting since it looks like all momentum is lost. I guess there's 3 full weeks to see if a deal can be made, but while no IA is happening there will be no media coverage so this fight will be forgotten by the public until then.

RM seem to be making sure this plays out exactly the way they want it to. Let's see if DW has an ace up his sleeve.

The reference in last night's conference call was to a "workplace ballot", not postal ballot. But what does a workplace ballot mean? Is this simply a show of hands following a workplace meeting? Or a secret ballot, with ballot papers being completed and put in a ballot box after such a meeting? I don't think this means a postal ballot, like what would be required for a strike ballot. Can anyone from the CWU clarify?

People probably will want to buy the shares because in all likelihood, the company will be split between GLS and whats left, with a buyout by you know who. He'll probably offer £4 a share for the whole lot then say bye bye to letters.

I echo a lot of the anger on the CWU communication. It has been quite abysmal this week. All I have been seeing kis second hand comments on facebook before today. No communication from the union, and no proper leadership.

This lame excuse about calling off the action to put the new offer to ballot is a lame excuse. If it isn't acceptable, then why waste people's time by putting it to ballot and creating my ballot issues?

It is like we have to be dictated to by RM, whose management must be gloating that the strikes have been called off for the next 3 weeks, while the union are now going to f**k around over the next few weeks. Its also all very well having all these extra strikes in December, but how are a lot of people going to be able to afford it? They will lose a lot of xmas pay and overtime which a lot of people heavily rely on at xmas. Why couldn't we have stuck to the odd days each week or so?

What annoys me, is that we have rmt, like them or not, that are communicating clearly to members and keeping their action going clearly, whilst in the cwu leadership, we have wallies that are mucking around and not clearly communicating to members and letting rm dictate the agenda. what a shower!

Good on the CWU for playing Thompson at his own game, he wanted the offer put to us and probably expected the union to just dismiss that request out of hand so he could have presented it to the media that a 9% pay offer had been rejected without due consideration. Smart move to show we're united against him despite the few obvious Thompson bots on here.

The rolling strikes were pulled because of the legal challenge. If CWU had gone to Court, probably waiting 4 weeks for a decision, then 2 weeks notice of new strike dates would have meant not being on strike until mid-December. If we’d lost the court case, add-in 3 weeks to re-ballot, we’d have no chance to strike until AFTER Christmas. What part of that is not clear?
