If the talks tomorrow produced a 10% pay rise no strings, no attack on the cwu and carry on as we are. There would still be people on here wanting to strike Friday and Saturday.

I think it's from this weird website which basically bases his wealth on some sort of internet influence calculation (a load of crapAcca Dacca wrote: ↑28 Sep 2022, 17:57Where is this £77 million stuff coming from you keep posting?richj2009 wrote: ↑28 Sep 2022, 17:53Everyone needs to stop thinking of this on longevity and rational terms for the sake of the business. People keep telling themselves that management will see sense etc etc. They don't give a flying f**k about a longevity plan. They want to drive the business into the ground sell gls make a fast few quid and f**k off. Please please stop talking about this scum as people to negogiate with . They aren't bothered. Think about it.. your a low life millionaire I've been given control of a business with a pension deficit (ill have that). Same business owns a 3.5 billion arm in Europe ( hey hey look at this millionaire freinds). We can take this f**k off the founding arm of bullshit we have to deliver and go to the next company we can asset strip. That's the reality. Anyone of us could be a greedy c*** and propose the same. It's Easy. Doesn't take intelligence just a total lack of morals. 115000 plus people rely on this piece of bolocks to support our families and keep a roof over our heads. The millionaires in charge want our lives destroyed for an easy few quid. It's a sustainable business and 77 million man Thompson for some almost perverse reasons want to ruin our lives. I never want to meet this man because my freedom will cease to exist. A job at Royal mail will be the least of my worries

Bottom line, let's just all calm down and wait and see what comes out of the meeting.
If strike is cancelled WITHOUT any meaningful movement from RM, then we can all get upset again.
Personally I reckon there's no chance of anything as we're so far apart, and DW was only last night saying how Thompson hasn't done anything except wind us all up for the last 6 months.
He's playing for certain, let's just all hope the union doesn't fall for it.

Exactly. He'll probably walk in, mumble something about £1m a day loss, then serve notice on something else.Dexydog wrote: ↑28 Sep 2022, 19:56Bottom line, let's just all calm down and wait and see what comes out of the meeting.

I wonder what can happen in this one meeting with Simon Thompson that hasn't happened in the last 5 months??
Has Simon whittled down his Xmas wishlist of late starts/finishes, Sunday working, a two tier workforce, analised hours and reduced sick leave?
Will there be more money offered even though the business is still losing approximately one measured million pounds a day?
Where is the main man Keith Williams? Has he been taken hostage somewhere as he's not answering his calls or responding to messages? We urgently need to hear from him regarding this alleged takeover from Vesa.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Some people have just had it with the constant bulls*it from Royal Mail for a number of years and feel like we've been sh*t on once too often.barrychuckle wrote: ↑28 Sep 2022, 19:37If the talks tomorrow produced a 10% pay rise no strings, no attack on the cwu and carry on as we are. It's not all about winning this battle for me as there will be wave after wave of bulls*it to come in the future.
These days will be actually looked back on as being the good old days, this firm is only going one way.

Who instigated these talks??
If it was Royal Mail then there’s a good chance of the strikes being called off.
If it was the cwu then there’s no chance imo.

We already have the plan for the next round. It takes us into our busy time of year which is the Ace we hold.
At this stage I don’t believe ACAS can be used as a stalling tactic provided we go into talks with set terms.
So given the whole point of yesterdays announcement was to get the company round the table and making concessions, we appear to have gotten the first part already.
I don’t want to see people throwing in the towel and complaining if we suspend Friday and Saturday in order to negotiate. It would completely defeat the purpose.
Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water if it happens.
We need to hold our nerve and keep our heads.

What change realistically would Simon Thompson back down on?
Sunday's will definitely come in but union should install a limit on how this will work for us. Ideally it would be nice to employ weekend staff for this and keep the existing staff on Monday to Friday but that would never happen ever.
Maybe abolish the annualised hours and to keep the start and finish times as they have been with maybe a 5% (maximum) payrise. Possibly a compromise on the sick pay. Terms for me is more important than a payrise and im sure that would apply to a lot of people.
Honestly I cant see ST budging much at all. He has been backed into a corner however and the only way he could move significantly is if he is under pressure from other majority shareholders

Hey I want the two days off now my legs are expecting it but so long as Dave and Andy are not tricked, then calling the strikes off must be good news, surely?
