That is the reason that start times aren’t changing until March. To give people time to make arrangements for picking up children etc.
Because they will all turn 16 by March next year or can find £700 a month for child care when we could be made to work any time or day of the week are you for real.
What RM senior management and. people like Lou mean when they say 'to give people time to make arrangements' is 'to give people time to find alternative employment'

Not good as your losing your best people but if RM want this it is what they will get they will reap what they sow!

The plan is for them to be replaced by a more expendable, more flexible, less costly new recruit on an inferior contract with inferior terms and conditions.

No parent need apply.

Depends on the quality of the people applying and will they achieve the heights of the quality of 2019 which is the only benchmark which I was part of we were the best as we delivered the service on time all the time!

The last few years working for this company have shown that they dont really care much for quality anymore

In the race to the bottom, RM can see the finish line up ahead

How do people in other professions do it? I have every sympathy with people this will effect, but it is the way the business has been moving for years now. It will happen regardless of how you vote, so the reality is you either make arrangements for kids being picked up or pick another job.

I’m not sure what other option there is really. The company ceased to be family friendly when privatisation came about. You are just a number now, and can be easily replaced.

It never has been family friendly just that post traditionally was delivered early when there was no parcel bullshit.

And thus limit themselves and times change not just for RM but for all till you care about your staff you only will get second or third best staff!

Listen, I agree with you and I don’t like the prospect myself, but the agreement will mitigate the issue if it is voted through, as Royal Mail wanted to shift the network by 3 hours, before the union involvement. If this agreement is not voted in, they are free to do that as soon as they like. A one hour change is preferable to a three hour one. I’m just a realist. Royal Mail are not going to change their plans in regard aircraft transportation of mail being removed.

Not having a go at you Lou but people will migrate to better jobs and we will end up with people who are not of the same quality as RM was accustomed too!

And that's one of rm's mistakes, I predict staff turnover reaching an all time high.

That is already happening. We are short of staff and are actively recruiting in our office, but people apply, get the job, then read their contracts and don’t even turn up for their first day. Then you have those who work a few days and quit. It is not an attractive job to new starters any more because of how these previous perks have evaporated, such as early finishes etc.

I’m not sure how many times I have said this now, but I am no fan of the agreement. I want to go back to the days of mid-morning finishes like the rest of you, but that ship sailed when we went from a service to a private company. I’m still amazed we got away with what we did for the last ten years.

How many people will give their service on the good ship ROYAL MAIL most are jumping ship before the next voyage and will have a skeleton staff at best unless they press gang 50'000 people and hope they will stay each year!
