Our worst 'ghoster' who usually is able to finish within his time, and that's including any extra that he takes on as a wee overtime deal, suddenly couldn't complete today on a normal-ish kind of day. Why? Because no overtime is allowed!!! He brought back stuff :d'oh! This from a guy who is NEVER over his time!!! Because he couldn't get his own way he threw a little tantrum!!
What will he say when the dom pulls out his PDA actuals and shows that he completed easily on similar traffic days?
He'll probably do what he's always does and squeals on others in the division to save his own neck

Royal Mail playing into the hands of posties ,an overtime ban this time of year will be catastrophic for the delivery sector and the nations xmas ,Thompson will get the boot before xmas day, just 2 days strike at the end of November will clog up the system for weeks, there is just not enough agency staff to cover everything, parcels will go missing with the loss of millions of pounds, share prices will plummet ,if the posties are going down Royal Mail are coming with us,now to all posties, don't be a wally take your trolley.

I personally think Thompson has just made a massive f@#% up. The biggest of own goals by banning overtime. This could be the final nail in the coffin.

I thought I’d seen it all over my years with Royal Mail.

But paying agency staff to do about a quarter of the work for more money(minus holiday/sick pay etc) must be the biggest insanity ever carried out by senior management.

The last 2 months and whatever is in the future will make a case study in a business degree, mark my words.

That’s how to do it boys, treat the people who do a bit extra and go a bit beyond through goodwill like s**t.
Members of staff who have remained PT for over a decade but continue to dutifully accept the hours given to them ad-hoc and just get on with it instead of taking you to a tribunal and forcing a FT job out of you. Treat them like s**t too.

That will all pan out grand for you.

No idea what RMs end game is but I find it very hard to believe this is one mans folly, there has to be a reason for these actions and it must have the full backing from the RM board

Or break the company, I sense most pt'ers will still strike next week and a virtual week long strike could destroy the company.

Message from Angela Noon
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Controlling our costs
26 October 2022
As you will be aware from our trading update earlier this month, we expect a loss of around £350 million this financial year, which could increase to around £450 million if customers move more volume away for longer periods.
Some analysts are suggesting Royal Mail could lose nearly £1 billion this year if the CWU takes all 19 days of strike action. Our financial situation as a business really is very serious. We need to put in place some stringent measures for controlling our costs and improving how we manage our cash every day.
We have no choice in this current environment of ongoing strikes and falling parcel volumes.
What does this mean?
The Executive Board has agreed a series of measures that will help us to keep control of our costs and manage cash in and out of the business. These measures are effective immediately and we need you, as our management team, to implement them and make sure everyone is considering every way possible to conserve cash and reduce costs overall.
Headcount controls will be tightened further.
Management headcount requests continue to be reviewed by the Executive Board.
Operational headcount controls remain for fixed hour contracts.
Given our biggest cost is overtime, a 50% reduction target will be introduced in Delivery and Processing to the end of fiscal year.

New delegation of authority - where all spend is reviewed and approved by a central cash committee depending on amount.
A 'No Purchase Order, No Pay' policy will be strictly enforced by accounts payable.
A travel and hospitality ban The use of Consultants will require Executive Board approval across the company Individual cost centre targets will be cascaded for functional areas to reduce spending.
All Capital Expenditure and Investment will be approved by CFO only.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

This lot are the biggest bunch of jokers going.

They insist the vast majority of staff are finishing well ahead of schedule and “need to work their hours”

Yet the biggest cost is OT?
Because you don’t employ enough people to do the core work you complete simpletons!

Yea the biggest cost is overtime because of a decade of financial decisions to understaff offices, to let massive numbers go on VR and then never recruit to replace them and only recruit new staff on Part Time contracts; is there any office in the country that actually has the number of FTs it needs?

It's a 'target' (and we all know how good RM are at hitting targets) but I can't see how functionally it will ever work - even in CE the business needs constant overtime to hit targets and meet SLAs, everytime they've tried to reduce OT in CE it's ended up with Grade of Service and SLAs not being met across the board.

Outraged as many of us are at this further attack on our terms and conditions this may actually be a blessing in disguise in terms of winning this dispute.

How many on here have been complaining about people lapping up O/T after strike days to clear the backlog.

Now Royal Mail senior management have basically implemented a work to rule ballot for us. Disciplining people for driving too fast and not delivering to neighbour. Making sure every item is signed correctly and people are working to their times...

All the two walk merchants who run around at break neck speed cutting every corner stopped in their tracks.

If this was all about savings like they say then why are agency staff getting offered work ahead of CWU members at bigger rates of pay..

It is a gamble to cripple us financially into submission.
It will fail and be a massive own goal for Thompson. For those that have been doing the job properly for years and penalised by management for cutting off, some of these new announcements will even be a breath of fresh air.

If they lose £1Billion they shouldn’t have paid half of that out as dividend.

Can’t see them sticking to this ban. They will break by tomorrow when part timers on full time duties leave half their loops in.

I wouldn't be surprised if at least a quarter of all COMs just immediately ignored it

You do not take more than you do.
You are not paid to forecast your duty. That's the gaffers job.
What if you are unfamiliar with a duty and can't accurately predict how much to take? Most people would ensure they've took out a little bit extra rather than risk finishing early by taking less.

The overtime ban is already over at our place but managers have said there is a cap on it so no all out ghosting just yet. Not that you’d want that with the volumes we currently have.
