It seems clear to me after 34 years in the job that the privatisation 0f 10 years ago has finally come home to roost, I'm glad that the union has kept this at bay for the last 10 years but this was always coming, they've wanted to turn us into a courier company since then with there terms and conditions, I thank the union for seeing off moya greene and good old Rico but it's clear that the business employed that narcissistic git for a reason, I will do absolutely everything the union asks of me as I always have, but it seems it doesn't matter what we do the company is set on this ,but remember whatever the outcome we still need a negotiated outcome so please fight on .

115,800 of us even if they get their 10,000 less that is 105,800 recalcient bastards to deal with who will do as little as possible and pull the top people in R/M down to earth, It would be better for them to get a deal too but the pressure is building on them day by day and night by night!garywales53 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:27It seems clear to me after 34 years in the job that the privatisation 0f 10 years ago has finally come home to roost, I'm glad that the union has kept this at bay for the last 10 years but this was always coming, they've wanted to turn us into a courier company since then with there terms and conditions, I thank the union for seeing off moya greene and good old Rico but it's clear that the business employed that narcissistic git for a reason, I will do absolutely everything the union asks of me as I always have, but it seems it doesn't matter what we do the company is set on this ,but remember whatever the outcome we still need a negotiated outcome so please fight on .

Shame, cos I was starting to enjoy it, and got the impression I'm doing a good job and fitting in well with everyone.aiden01 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:21Fair play good luck on job frontAndybee wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:16I'm a manpower agency driver started 3 weeks ago, with shifts until Christmas.
I'm fully aware no one could give a s**t about my opinion, but I'll give it anyway.
I fully support the strikes, now seeing it from the inside, s**t pay, s**t conditions, on the whole pretty disorganised.
As we've been asked to work strike days, and now there are (10?) strike days, that's about 30% of the shifts I've been given.
If I strike in solidarity, I have no money for December & January, so it's pointless even being there from tomorrow.
If I work the strike days there will be 10 days of animosity, and a complete nightmare trying to clear the backlog for no extra money.
As RM have no loyalty to me , no guarantee of long term prospects, no sick pay, no overtime, it's just not worth the aggravation.
Conclusion, I'm looking for another job as of tomorrow.![]()
But it's not my battle to fight. I wish everyone good luck.

It wont be 4 days in 1 week, and guarantee 1 of the days will be on one of their days off.Surreypostie wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 19:31I guarantee, people will cross the line, Part timers will not lose 4 days pay in one week. A lot of full timers won't.

The job is garbage now but couldn't you apply for a job with rm through a regular job advert or is the only way to get in through the agency?Andybee wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:38Shame, cos I was starting to enjoy it, and got the impression I'm doing a good job and fitting in well with everyone.aiden01 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:21Fair play good luck on job frontAndybee wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:16I'm a manpower agency driver started 3 weeks ago, with shifts until Christmas.

Well new contracts will be on less the said as of 31/10/2022 last month that would also feed through to agency work and thus you this is how the very Rich treat people well f**k the rich. Yeah Thompson wants us out delivering parcels for £11.59 per hour-haven’t you heard?Acca Dacca wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:22A strike on the 25th?!CamPostie wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:02Guess it’s too late for the Union to change these dates then?
Can’t help think a much stronger tactic would have been to announce 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th & 25th December strikes and run it on a “Scrooge Simon Thompson” / “The Czech Grinch” / ‘x’ days to save Christmas etc campaign.
I say this because even though the rolling strikes never went ahead, they definitely had an impact because businesses had to actively consider what to do if they did happen - and no doubt set up alternatives.
Mean ok, I’m sure the 23rd and 24th ones will get a reaction from the media and build a little pressure - but I just feel going out for the whole week before Christmas would have been a much stronger play.![]()

Already happening in my office half the walks haven't been out for 3 days (lack of staff)and the rest of us are alternating walks as we are having to take parcels as the agency are dropping like flies, roll on the next month we wont be able to get in the door just hope people dont miss nhs appointments and suffer because of it as Thompson and his board only care for cash and lining their pockets .Chitchat wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 20:32I think we must do all we can after strike days to NOT run around or go over and above to help clear the backlog. We need this backlog to be so big that delivery offices can't accept any more York's as there is no room. We need this back log to not be cleared in-between strike days. Christmas strikes gives us our strongest hand and we must utilise it to its fullest.

That's true. Xmas eve gets hammered with specials, that's why the union picked that day because they will struggle. .Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:46The managers won’t be saying that when they try to clear the specials that day.

From what I've seen virtually all RM jobs are now through Manpower or Pertemps.postieblueshirt wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:42The job is garbage now but couldn't you apply for a job with rm through a regular job advert or is the only way to get in through the agency?Andybee wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:38Shame, cos I was starting to enjoy it, and got the impression I'm doing a good job and fitting in well with everyone.aiden01 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:21Fair play good luck on job frontAndybee wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:16I'm a manpower agency driver started 3 weeks ago, with shifts until Christmas.

RM careers are only looking for Parcelforce (self-employed) owner-drivers now.:

That's exactly the same as working for Amazon Logistics, which I did for a while, and tbf Amazon are WAY more organised with modern facilities.

True, pulling that out of the hat is a s**t or bust strategy, but you do it in the hope you don’t have to strike because a deals reached… and if one isn’t then we were never likely to get better anyway.k979aaa wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:13Too much in one week most anyone could do is one 3 day one in the middle of December but It depends on peoples days everyone's shift is different. The 7th 8th and 10th one of these days could be added and would make a bigger blow if they escalate it like they have today by the WTLL brief today!CamPostie wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 21:02Guess it’s too late for the Union to change these dates then?

The key is the idea of it happening is bad enough to get movement.
