Ridiculously enough, a load of our colleagues still feel guilty when they go back into work after strike days and feel obliged to clear the mail from a strike day which they haven't been paid for. The business plays on the good nature of those people.
Totally Agree PP. RM has ALWAYS relied on the Good Will of it's Posties to get the job done , God Knows how many thousands of Hours of FREE work these Posties give the COMPANY over the year?
Some even felt Guilty about Striking, feeling they were letting "Their" customers down. It took our Rep a few chats to convince them that they're RM's Customers not theirs and Striking was not aimed at their Residents but at the RM Board. In the end we were solid only one guy broke the strike.
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

Totally agreed Dorset. They get more than their fair share if they actually knew what went on. That’s why colleagues need to stop working for free. I still can’t believe it goes on. I’d be having words if people did that in my office. Just why on earth do people come in early for free for example? It’s crazy. Detrimental for their colleagues too…

Many are still getting done early. There are a lot of posties who come into work on time and struggle to complete on time, we know that. Those ones give the managers issues and are in the spotlight. The ones who get in early, bomb around and get done early are loved by managers. They let it happen and turn a blind eye to it. Every office has them.
Back in the day, it was like a competition who could get finished the quickest, like a badge of honour. There's still an element of that. You see them at 12.30 slip in and pouch off in front of the managers, whilst the guy on the next frame is out there til 3pm.

In the past I've had that conversation with the DOM, "What is the difference between a"Plodder" booking an hours OT for Pressure .... And a "Runner" going home an hour early"? BOTH are costing the Business an hours pay, but like you say PP the "Runners" are the DOMs favourites whilst the "Plodders" are a problem!
We still have that kind of Competion in my DO. The guys that are ALWAYS the first back are forever joking between themselves about how much work they have and "I've got more work than you".... "You won't be out that long because you've hadly got anything Ha Ha ". God forbid you get finished before them. One of the Cheeky Bastards even said ... "What are YOU doing finishing this early" as if was their God Given right to be the first back Anchors the lot of them!

Is going home an hour early actually “costing” the business money?
Is going home an hour early actually “costing” the business money?
I take the view that if someone is working their Rest Day and finishing an hour early every day then that's 6 hours they're making a week. So they're working nearly a whole day less a week... and getting paid for it! .... than another Postie that is working up until their contracted finishing time.
Yet if that other Postie was claiming an hours Pressure OT (perhaps because his duty is too big, and he hasn't been in the office every 5 minutes bending the DOMs ear about how hard done by he is, and he can't possibly finish in time so he's got no time for lapsing etc ....) suddenly that other Postie is a Work Shy Idler that's dragging his heels and milking the OT system!
In both instances it's costing RM 6 hours pay, do see my point mjd?

Totally agree with everything you say. I've only worked for RM for 8 years and am always gobsmacked at the inane comments made by the early starters and finishers. It doesn't matter what you say to them they cannot comprehend that the they are being taken for mugs by managers who don't give a s*** about them really. They just use them to do extra. When something goes wrong in their life do they think that the managers will treat them with respect?

What if the guy finishing an hour early everyday is doing a “longer/harder” delivery than the guy going over? But he’s just quicker. So he’s actually doing more work for Royal Mail, just taking less time.
Some delivery posties are their own worst enemy Come in on time, take your break, use the correct delivery method and finish on time! If you all did this RM would be screwed
Lets be honest, we dont really know the details of the changes they want, everything posted on here is just Rickeys proposals followed by everyones take on it.
What we really need is for both sides to stop being silly, grow up, act like adults and delve into the details of what the employer wants, then the union can get back to us with what they want to happen (plus pay increase) and we can talk it from that point.

Then he is a prat
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
