I remember a few years ago when the data protection laws came in and royal mail said it would be the death of junk mail. The exact opposite has happened because instead of getting targeted junk to a particular person at addresses on a street they now spam the whole street with a letter to "the resident" "the homeowner" or "the holidaymaker' for example and just put no personal data used to make this mailing! I regularly get the same items for nearly half my delivery one day then the other half the next and they get sent again a few weeks later. The postcode lottery is a regular for every house that doesn't play it every month
From my own experience I'm pretty sure I get load more junk mail on a daily basis than I did years ago, whilst bank statements etc have disappeared that type of mail would be only once a month but I'm getting 2 or 3 pieces of junk mail a day plus weekly D2D's.

What's the betting if challenged Simon will say "sorry we've made a mistake, we've overlooked counting junk mail as post"?

.................differences between areas with older populations v ones with young people?

...
Can see this on individual streets - one well established street pretty much all bungalows, older residents gets absolutely flooded
with catalogues for stuff you never knew you needed, comfy shoes, thermal underwear, gardening catalogues, Radio Times.

Same walk, different street, newly built, family houses, gigabit broadband - not much mail but gets hammered with parcels!

If it's not a D2D then it's already counted as post

I agree YB :thumbup I've got big "Expensive" Houses and houses where the "Normal" people live (Lot of Housing Association).
The difference between the two is very noticable, lots of expensive designer clothing catalogues/ cruise brochures/ John Lewis & Marks & Spencer parcels to the big houses. Studio Card Catalogues/ Scewfix/ Old People's Catalogues and Amazon parcels to the normal houses.

I believe a lot of the catalogues are targetted at the more affluent houses because they have a prestigious post code (and they think they've got a lot of cash). Some days it's ridiculous when they're getting 5 or 6 expensive tat catalogues. :cuppa

I started in the 80's and a big day was 2 bags of mail and it steadily increased and today its double figures for bags of mail so where is the mail drop off.
Maybe because deliveries were MUCH shorted back then.
