i remember when i worked for British Rail in 70s and 80s we got a ''massive'' 20% payrise. the union executive Sid Weighell said ''the days of cheap railmen are over'' our pay went from 46 quid a week to 55 quid. it was still a fortune to me as young kld in his 20s. but 7% of our pay now would give a full time postie a 33 quid rise....a good rise but is it enough? or are the days of cheap posties here to stay?toonshola wrote: ↑03 Apr 2022, 19:10In years past this would have definitely been the case but the rising cost of living this year is unprecedented. And these rising bills and costs will never come back down. Terry Pullinger and Dave Ward need to seriously earn their silly salaries and get us minimum 7%.

Re: Payrise
Can’t help but think that RM are gonna string this out and gamble that the CWU/Membership won’t have the appetite for IA cos of the hit we are all suffering with the cost of living crisis. I hope El Tel and the postal exec present a strong and robust argument that results in a good rise pronto. Somehow I think along with others here it’s Nov/Dec.

Tel is off sick with covid at the moment, I wonder if he is getting calls all day trying to fit him to return.Whinealot wrote: ↑04 Apr 2022, 23:44Can’t help but think that RM are gonna string this out and gamble that the CWU/Membership won’t have the appetite for IA cos of the hit we are all suffering with the cost of living crisis. Re: Payrise
The pay rate indicated on the pay slip remains the same - But is now divided bt 37 instead of 38.
The hourly rate will increase accordingly for the part-timer indicated on the Basic Pay.

Re: Payrise
I wonder why if hourly rate gone up slightly due to reduction of full time hours why our piss poor overtime rate hasn’t changed at all? Can anyone explain it?

Day 7 of no new payrise.
This week the new NI deductions kick in, so as from tomorrow for those on weekly pay our basic takehome pay will have actually gone down....

National Insurance up, food prices up, oil and gas up, Minimum wage up....
Our wages not moving, but take that 2 days mail out and make sure you complete it which means you will be going over your contracted hours for a pittance of a wage and go home with legs that feel like concrete.

I think im right in thinking that actually we’ll be slightly better off over the course of the year despite the new NI thing? Cant remember how to explain it but saw it explained on tv yesterday.

Re: Payrise
Why have you got to complete it? And wehy have you got to go over your contracted hours? Perhaps you need to start looking for alternative employment if you think RM are holding a gun to your head and making you do things you don't have to for pittance wages?norris9 wrote: ↑07 Apr 2022, 07:32National Insurance up, food prices up, oil and gas up, Minimum wage up....

Re: Payrise
Each time we have a pay rise they delay it so we get a small back pay which makes it seem better than it really is. We will be LUCKY to get 3% which is nothing really.
