Pretty much nail on the head, here. This idea should have been floated 12+ months ago….Nickvilla20 wrote: ↑06 Jul 2023, 06:07I said from the start if they made the majority of delivery staff Monday to Friday then change would have been much more palatable. A six day letter service isn’t needed in the current day I would imagine many rotating day off duties are not been covered on days off going Monday to Friday would probably solve that. You also open a market for a weekend delivery jobs which might be attractive to people who can’t work in the week.

“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

Are people thinking..I will work mon-fri with sat and Sunday off? I wouldn't get your hopes up for that it would be shared out over six to seven days still.

Re: Ward now wants rid of 6 day USO?
I think I actually prefer the current setup where we have a rolling day off. It breaks up the week. Doing Mon-Fri means walking 10miles+ a day 5 days in a row. I think I am more likely to be even more shattered if this was implemented.
Obviously, it doesn't necessarily mean us posties will be working Mon-Fri if the USO went that way, but likely means that most of us will as they will need a relatively small amount of posties to deliver parcels on Sat/Sun.

Whats worrying is i think it would lead to job losses if they dont want to cover the uso now why should we think they are going to in the future and strip even more staff out.

So so annoying! All the fighting and dispute for very little when they could have just cooperated and got us a large pay rise.
I am disappointed but not shocked because it became obvious by February that the fog has cleared over the eyes of the CWU hierarchy.
Very sad!

Multiple points here...
1) pretty sure Dave mentioned looking into the reduction of the USO during the select committee hearings
2) letter volume still high where I am, but I am usually on obscure rurals.
3) Mon-fri won't happen. You'll keep your rolling day off and deliver packets on the weekend (or mail if the USO hasn't been met for that area in the week as we sometimes have to do on Sundays)
4) if parcel volumes increase as they predict, no job losses necessary, though their predictions are rarely any good
5) to the "good luck finding any job that you can do the school run on" crowd: a lot of us could get more money elsewhere, and if we have to pay after school club fees it would be stupid working for RM on our current wages if we could go elsewhere for more

Is there a link to the new sick policy? I can only find old ones.mattick wrote: ↑05 Jul 2023, 21:34Is there really genuinely any point in continuing to pay union subs, the union seems to have given Royal Fail carte blanche to whatever they want. I lost 2 weeks pay and 6 months of overtime, now I see Ward bending over backwards for them. RM new sick policy goes live 1st August, the ballot isn't even closed yet

Pretty much. Perhaps get the 9 months vr, or just leave to find another job that doesn't treat you with so much disdain.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑06 Jul 2023, 05:29He's a sellout because he wants to start a debate that should have happened at least five years ago?
The USO is no longer fit for purpose and is no longer protecting jobs it is putting them at risk and forcing us further and further down the part-time resourcing model.
There just aren't enough letters to sustain a six day letter USO and if the union is guilty of anything it's of not facing that reality years ago.
Changes to the USO especially the designation of 1st class mail could open up the possibility of a reversal of the current trend towards later starts but the CWU is a sellout for even opening up a debate about that?
Jesus f***ing wept.

Didn't RM say a 5 day service would lead to a £200m costs savings? I assume the bulk of that is in wages so that's effectively 10,000 job losses.

Haven't 10,000 already left? Historically the union's opposition to moving to 5 days was supposedly the loss of one sixth of the membership, so if they've already gone then there's nothing left to lose.
The machine stops.

Nasty man - thousands of people lose their jobs who’ve probably been in years longer than you
