It's ironic that the staff who come in early do so because they want to finish early which not means that they give us more work to do via lapsing - but they are determined to give us later start and finish times as well!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I just think it’s fairer for all workers if annual leave is pro rata amount of time actually worked. If Royal Mail had to make cuts I think it’s one way of Royal Mail showing appreciation for staff who don’t take much sick leave. Any long term sick would still have the same amount of holiday pro rata as someone who had no time of sick.
How about rewarding people for good attendance {and maybe good performance] not punishing them for being sick?

One way that might not cost too much but which would be perceived as more valuable than a random day off would be to award days off around Christmas. no days off all year - then take the 27th and 28th December. Another might be to create a platinum layer of benefits only available to those with no sick leave previous year (50% discount off a range of products). Just my thought bubbles.

Just a quickie, sadly all sickness is being punished, genuine v piss take, shame. The physical side is definitely affecting me from neck downwards ! For those who don't understand, the revision bought in by Royal Mail is based on start - finish times, and doing the job correctly, the danger is being destroyed from within.

Have you thought to see a chiropractor? They are expensive but good imo. Otherwise videos on You Tube.

Also, something I do is stretch my back out on the floor. Put some books under your head if that feels more comfortable. Then as your back muscles relax remove a thin book. Wait 5-10 minutes, repeat. Maybe after an hour your head will be flat on the floor [which didn't seem possible at the start] and the back much better aligned.

If you can do it - water fasting for a few days is very good for reducing inflammation in the body , including arthritis.

Rewarding staff financially for not going on sick could be seen as discriminating against people that were genuinely sick but there are other ways of encouraging staff not to go sick. We might never all get Xmas eve off again so I agree with your suggestions :thumbup

Isn't RM going to discriminate the genuinely sick in future by not paying them full sick pay?

Not for the first absence as that's still 6 months full pay/6 months half pay but any future absences seem to fall under SSP. Most employers usually have SSP. This is the law regarding sick pay

OMG I was in tears when I read this 'The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I called the missus in to show her, she reckoned I'd written it.....I told her I didn't but I WISH I HAD!

Superbly written and yes,100% PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY DRAINING, HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT?

ALL GOT THE SAME OBTUSE ATTITUDE, I DON'T BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TOUGHT THESE MANNERISMS, AND THEY ARE NOT JUST DOING THEIR JOBS, SIMPLY BULLIES THROUGH AND THROUGH YOU RECKON?
