Liz reminds me of a poster on twitter that I had a few rows with. She had the hump because a few delayed parcels ruined her business (apparently).

Re: Annual leave deductions for strike days
As with ANY company, you accrue annual leave by working, if you withdraw your labour (striking) you are not working so obviously you're not going to accrue leave for those strike days, hence why you have seen no opposition from the union on this, nor will you.

I have NEVER been deducted leave from a strike stop talking nonsense. It’s just yet another union busting tactic. It’s leave we already are entitled to they have taken away as you would know if you worked there…. All this does is create even more anomosity between staff and senior management just when ballot papers are being delivered great timing , great man management and people skills feel so proud to work for this company. When are senior management going to learn attacking the workforce just results in less productivity and increased sickness ,

Lost 15 hours.Zicomurphy wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 20:54Seems very excessive. That can’t all be deductions due to strike action. I lost just over 10 hours. Would have thought 12 or 13 hours would be the maximum.

Re: Annual leave deductions for strike days
It's not really that simple though is it?priority102 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 21:48As with ANY company, you accrue annual leave by working, if you withdraw your labour (striking) you are not working so obviously you're not going to accrue leave for those strike days, hence why you have seen no opposition from the union on this, nor will you.
If it was you would accrue extra annual leave simply by working overtime/days off.
So it's actually about working the days you are contracted to work.
So bearing in mind for the vast majority of our reserves control over the days they were contracted to work was completely in the hands of local managers it could be legally dubious.

Re: Annual leave deductions for strike days
Well exactly if I’m contracted to 30 hours and achieved that during strike weeks without working strike days should they really be deducting leave?

Re: Annual leave deductions for strike days
I contacted a lad who works as a law lecturer in the city uni and he reckons its illegal...says you cant be victimised for taking part in a 'protected act', and a legal strike is a protected act. He says all they can legally do is deduct the strike days from your overall length of service....does Martin Walsh/ or union heirarchy not know about this?... i think i will email Darren Jones see if i can get a reply.

Re: Annual leave deductions for strike days
Zereena Brown communication:
As part of the normal quarterly review of unpaid absence, annual leave entitlements will be adjusted in January to reflect the number of days that colleagues have been absent due to industrial action. In broad terms, for a full time colleague, this equates to a reduction of 0.5 days annual leave for every 5 days of unpaid absence.
• For colleagues who participate in every strike day, this means nearly 2 days of annual leave will be lost.
If they have annual leave still to take this year, this will be deducted from their outstanding leave entitlement.
Hope this helps...
