If I'm honest, I'm sick of all of it.
RM's latest letter to the branches was not as horrendous as expected, looks like there has been some form of compromise on their part. Had a bit of hope for a minute... then this comes out, which (as has been pointed out already) looks like it was written in August and bears no relation to the reality of the current situation.

If we don't strike we have no choice but to accept Thompsons unacceptable resolution. As painful as it'll be for us all to lose 2 days pay this week, we have to go through with this and suffer the financial hit in the hope that it shows Royal Mail that we are not going to buckle and they need to compromise, for the sake of the business and its reputation, for its customers at both ends of the process and lastly, us the beleaguered workforce.

Spot on. No-one in their right mind wants to strike.

But what choice do we have? It's the only weapon we've got. Otherwise we submit to Thompson's Amazon/ Deliveroo wet dream.

Make no mistake, the scumbag running this company ultimately wants us working for minimum legal pay with minimum legal protections and minimum legal working conditions.

What good does a protracted strike do in reality if the employer digs in and has the resources to withstand that action?

The Miners strike answers that question

It won't be protracted, this gets sorted by next week if there's overwhelming support for Thursday and Fridays action.

Really?

Which bits have been altered from RM’s original want list,I genuinely didn’t see anything?’
“Shorts,in this weather?!”

“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”

“What’s she been ordering now?”

"4. A New Strategy to Diversify the Business and Expand the Role of Postal
Workers
 This must build on the strategy agreed in the Pathway to Change Agreement
and should be seen as an alternative to abandoning the a.m Delivery period.
 RMG will invest in a project with CWU to diversify and grow the business
beyond letters and parcels, exploring new commercial markets, supporting
communities, driving local and regional business growth, introducing new
local-to-local services and acting as an advocate for environmental change.
 We will also jointly approach the Government, Metro Mayors and local
Councils with a plan to put RMG and its workforce at the centre of community
wealth building projects and approaches to assist the UK economic recovery
and levelling up agenda.
 The above approach will focus on how we can utilise Royal Mail’s competitive
advantage in its unique reach in delivering daily to 32 million addresses and
the special relationship that employees have with customers on the doorstep.
 The plan will also focus on how we can use Royal Mail’s existing
infrastructure, including Mail Centres, to support new revenue streams.
 CWU are ready to meet the RMG Board and present the above as part of an
alternative business plan. CWU also has a coalition of partners ready to
support this approach."

If this really is the full extent of their "alternative business plan" it's little wonder they've been too embarrassed to tell members about it. It's the same wishy washy nebulous mess they teased it as. There is no business plan in any of that. Nothing of substance. No specific products to generate revenue. Hollow ESG buzzwords and no actual plan. Why on earth would the company accept that as an alternative to their own?

Sure, we'll solve the company's financial problems by having posties "advocating for environmental change". That'll surely pay our wages. :nana
Is usual CWU a lot talking no details and plan. Nothing new.

Muppetry! No wonder there is no agreement between the two... The CWU are in cloudcooland!

How can they now turn round and accept a deal when they just want things to carry on as before and all these talks have not changed their position.

There will be no agreement between to look forward to. This is the end of the CWU!

I doubt RM's pockets are as deep as the Governments, plus the Government was content to close mines I doubt RM wants to close large parts of the business? At the end of the day if RM win this dispute we may all need to look for new jobs anyway, this does seem to have become a fight to the death or one of the sides.

Whoever wrote that load of wishful thinking wasted an hour or two of their time. It is not even a starting point for future negotiations.

Somebody said earlier that some posties will suffer a 'bad christmas'. Listen. A bad christmas is not the end of the world but I suspect for many it means not many presents and not enough booze. With respect, that is the least of our problems.

If we let ST plough ahead, and you stay with RM, then nearly all future winter days will be unbearable and future Christmases won't be any better than this one.

We need to strike and strike resolutely >>>>>> to weaken the board's position in front of shareholders and in order to win a brighter, bearable working situation in the near future.
