New strike dates announced : 9/11/14/15/23/24 Dec!

I think we must do all we can after strike days to NOT run around or go over and above to help clear the backlog. We need this backlog to be so big that delivery offices can't accept any more York's as there is no room. We need this back log to not be cleared in-between strike days. Christmas strikes gives us our strongest hand and we must utilise it to its fullest.

The Sunday is a great one, yea not much gets delivered but having worked 27 Christmas the Mondays are often some of the busiest days. I'm guessing that with all processing, distribution and logistics striking it will cause a big back log in the pipeline especially with the other days dotted round it

Can’t help think a much stronger tactic would have been to announce 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th & 25th December strikes and run it on a “Scrooge Simon Thompson” / “The Czech Grinch” / ‘x’ days to save Christmas etc campaign.

I say this because even though the rolling strikes never went ahead, they definitely had an impact because businesses had to actively consider what to do if they did happen - and no doubt set up alternatives.

Mean ok, I’m sure the 23rd and 24th ones will get a reaction from the media and build a little pressure - but I just feel going out for the whole week before Christmas would have been a much stronger play.

Pretty sure Thompson will be looking at those dates and thinking to himself “is that it?”
23rd and 24th might be a bit of a worry but flood the place with agency and advertise to the public to order everything well before the 23rd and he’s in the home straight. This dispute was lost weeks ago. The desperation in Wards voice pleading and almost crying for Simon to give him a deal was sad to watch. Not gunna be as sad as us working late into the evenings on inhumane monster delivery’s but it was sad all the same.

Exactly, Not sure why ward & co let negotiations run past RM giving the market update but they could have put the squeeze on RM to reach a deal by the 16th or they would announce new strike dates, which would have tanked the stock.
RM keep getting wins. First was their court ruling to cancel the strikes now they delivered a market update without their stock crashing.
Said it before, it looks likely they are willing to take a loss this Christmas in order to push their long term plan through.
After Christmas what leverage do the union have? Would workers be still willing to strike?

Too much in one week most anyone could do is one 3 day one in the middle of December but It depends on peoples days everyone's shift is different. The 7th 8th and 10th one of these days could be added and would make a bigger blow if they escalate it like they have today by the WTLL brief today!

I'm a manpower agency driver started 3 weeks ago, with shifts until Christmas.
I'm fully aware no one could give a s**t about my opinion, but I'll give it anyway.
I fully support the strikes, now seeing it from the inside, s**t pay, s**t conditions, on the whole pretty disorganised.
As we've been asked to work strike days, and now there are (10?) strike days, that's about 30% of the shifts I've been given.
If I strike in solidarity, I have no money for December & January, so it's pointless even being there from tomorrow.
If I work the strike days there will be 10 days of animosity, and a complete nightmare trying to clear the backlog for no extra money.
As RM have no loyalty to me , no guarantee of long term prospects, no sick pay, no overtime, it's just not worth the aggravation.
Conclusion, I'm looking for another job as of tomorrow.
