Re: Alternative plan
The union have talked about alternative plans and ways to grow the business. I am not new in the job, I don't believe every word they spew out, neither do I believe everything that comes from RM. Experience shows both sides move and neither gets everything. Trouble is, we are never told, it is always a secret, talks are always sensitive blah blah. Well, how I see it, it has been nearly 2 months since the 1st action and from what I gather, RM have not moved one inch. I could be wrong, if I am wrong, show me the proof? Dave Ward claimed last week there would be a new offer on pay this week, Thomson came out the same day and said that is false. Well here we are, it is tuesday, they have 3 more days to show us what this improved pay offer is, if it is not forthcoming where do we go from here? My personal opinion, if we can't get a deal at the busiest time of the year we aren't going to get one at all. Why do I say that? In every dispute you get the same voices saying, hit them at christmas now is not the right time etc.
I hope to be proved totally wrong and to be honest, I am quite enjoying having a day off a week, I can afford to do it indefinitely so call me all the names you like if you don't agree with me it won't change my opinion that we are pissing in the wind.

Re: Alternative plan
Realistically to end this dispute, I suspect the CWU needs to accept most of the change for a slightly larger than 5.5% pay deal. Personally, I'd accept most of the change apart from the "annualised hours" bullshit. If they don't do that, I can't see any other outcome except more strikes in December, and thus more financial and ultimately job losses. It's all well and good trying to protect current terms and conditions, but try being on the dole during a recession.Surreypostie wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 14:41The union have talked about alternative plans and ways to grow the business. Banking of hours and commit to deliver are far worse than annualised hours.Murdoch wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 15:55Realistically to end this dispute, I suspect the CWU needs to accept most of the change for a slightly larger than 5.5% pay deal. Re: Alternative plan
Sorry but this "Royal Mail needs to modernise" line is just bullshit.
Banking of hours
Forced to deliver
Sick pay reduction
Inferior terms for new starters
Compulsory Sunday working at standard rate
Etc
These will not "modernise" RM. They are a straightforward attacks on workers rights, straight out of the fevered dream of some 1980s dinosaur.

For sure, everybody knows what this is, it's the cost of privatisation.sindba wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 16:16Sorry but this "Royal Mail needs to modernise" line is just bullshit.

Re: Alternative plan
Banking hours and commit to deliver are the two main things I am against, commit to deliver means no finishing time and the end of life outside of RM, you can't make an appointment outside of your working hours if they have no end. That is one thing he can shove.Pidleypoo wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 16:06Banking of hours and commit to deliver are far worse than annualised hours.Murdoch wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 15:55Realistically to end this dispute, I suspect the CWU needs to accept most of the change for a slightly larger than 5.5% pay deal. I don't want to work sunday but they won't need everyone every sunday so a rota I could accept.
Later starts and finishes aren't a major concern for me, they will screw up loads of other people that have kids to pick up from school, people that talk of delivering in the dark, well we used to do it years ago but in the mornings, it's a pain in the arse working by torchlight.
2% don't take the mickey mate, it's a pisstake. More money or we accept nothing.
The one thing you can count on is there will be no end unless the negotiations are sincere on both sides.
Finally, everybody needs to come off that Workplace nonsense and stop reading his scaremongering, don't give him an audience.

Re: Alternative plan
I think the union need to be clear what their idea of a line in the sand is, as more and more people are going to decide for themselves what they are willing to change about the job. How DO they know what would be seen as an acceptable negotiation?

Re: Alternative plan
I'm sorry, I am union through and through but I am not stupid, he is playing for time, get past christmas and nobody will care. He isn't budging I don't give a shite what Dave Ward says, if you read today's update from the union they have said it themselves. We have to make sure the strikes thursday and next tuesday have even bigger support.

Re: Alternative plan
Indeed, they need to engage with members on what we would be willing to accept, as clearly just repeating "unacceptable change" doesn't move this forward.
