All that time wasted to come up with a 2%. At least it's a straight pay offer however if they could triple that. I would look a lot better, still not quite there but many of us would be willing to accept a 6% with no strings.
However I really believe we should get as close to inflation as possible, currently at 9% and rising. If royal mail weren't stalling and offered us something like 3.5-4% no strings late January, early February. This would most likely be over a long time ago now.

They're dicking us around, just go into the negotiating room and stick Netflix on for the rest of the DRP and then ballot us.

The CWU probably still have grand ideas of a 35 hour working week with no loss in pay. But Royal Mail last time round said that a shorter week had cost the business to the extent that they weren't prepared to drop another hour without receiving something substantial in return.

And you're absolutely right an hour or two off the working week doesn't pay the bills
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I said it a couple of weeks back and I’m even more sure of it now. RM will use executive action in a couple of weeks to start getting the changes they want in. They are not being serious with these pay offers and know fine well us and the CWU won’t entertain them, 2% is an absolute insult. We’ve got one hell of a battle ahead of us.

If they introduce the pay rise by executive action, do we then go on strike because we've been given a pay rise?

They did that a few years back....didnt consult the union and brought in a payrise of £11 i think it was,.....nothing happened except big 'billy' wasnt happy...cant remember the date..ten maybe 15 yrs ago?

We only have half the information. Which allowances are Royal Mail talking about scrapping precisely ? 32 sounds a lot but which ones are they. I'm not suggesting in any way scrapping any is something we should accept whatsoever but just saying does anybody know which allowances they are talking about ?

If it is a below inflation rise then yes, we strike because we've been given an unacceptable and derisory pay rise.

Still not in papers or news about our shitty offer.Can see this year being year if strikes as so many other company's in same boat.

If Royal Mail are genuinely struggling with money to offer workers a fair and appropriate above inflation pay rise, they will have to go back to the market (stockmarket), and arrange a further allocation of shares (placing) for new and / or existing investors. Some large institutions would happily invest a few hundred million for a discounted stake in Royal Mail's future. They've splurged enough out in dividends, now perhaps use it also to get some more back in during these tough times.

for us, it's sure not going to be painful for the upper echelons of RM or shareholders.

Shares could be offered to institutions at a discount to attract them..Inflation is circular, . . Royal Mail are hiking prices too. . . .the institutions wouldn't be investing purely to support a wage increase (they already have all of the money for that, even a 10% wage increase is affordable based on a cost of £45 million per 1% rise). - but the institutions would be investing at the same time in the future automation of Royal Mail and get a discounted price for the whole Royal Mail Group too. Yes the dividend would have to take a hit or even be scrapped for a while but the share price has been suffering for some time, so even without this I could see the dividend taking a hit soon anyway.

Given RM have just announced £400m+ profits they are clearly not struggling to finance a pay rise, they just don't want to do it in order to keep profits as high as they can.
