It’s based on a 40 hour week pro rata as has been said

Will likely be 29 or 30 hour contracts based on pro rata of a 40 hour week rather than 37. So less than a current part timer who’s pay is based as a percentage of 37 hours.

Here's an actual job advert from the Royal Mail website, posted today, 1 November, with the new reduced pay rate and inferior terms and conditions (except for the enhanced overtime rate!). Interesting to note it's being advertised at 30 hours, and not 40 hours. I wonder if the 1.25 X overtime rate will only be paid on any hours worked over 40 hours, or any hours worked over 30 hours?

Just £11.59 an hour. No mention of any additional allowances, like the delivery supplement, and no progression in pay after completing 6 or 12 months (although this is only advertised as a 4-5 month fixed contract).

Also note the "flexibilty" requirement - maybe asked to work from 8am to 8pm. Monday-Sunday. Pay is monthly, not weekly.

I certainly would tell the newbie that they are working the same job but getting paid less than the colleague next to you.

This guy does not live in the real world or if he does he is just trying to wind us up before he gets the boot. He talks about valuable afternoon and evening work but that will replace the valuable morning work… finishing late will mean no scope for anyone to do overtime and we’ve seen in some offices how well that’s going for them… I can concede there is business to be had on a Sunday but not if we’re only getting £11 an hour! Pay us properly.

I assume this is a newly produced advert to reflect the new contract, if so, how can they advertise the job hours as 10am to 6pm but then say in body of the advert you may be asked to work 8am to 8pm??

Also what career progression is there really as a postie, unless you're ever daft enough to become a trainee manager then there's no career progress.

Assuming overtime starts as soon as the postie goes over 30 hours it seems to me if they a substantial amount of o/t they'll be paid more than under the old style contracts i.e. if they work 50 in total/20hours o/t they'll be paid for 55 hours work in total.

I am not saying the same things over but the sentiment might be the same...

Why should I be playing victim unless some of you actually think this is real life - it is an opinion forum; I voice the same opinions in my office - I have no problem with people disagreeing with me.

I do disagree with people that want to burn the 'mother' down but I dont attack anyone of you personally or use cursive language unlike some of you!

There are a few of you here that want to shut down alternative opinions Your particular opinion is very common place on many of the threads here, so it is not that unique! There are people that have alternative opinions that are put off by the usual suspects.
