Isn't leaving very much a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face?

I agree the CWU leadership has at best been incompetent that's for sure, but we are stronger together!

We need a change of leadership not a drop in membership that will solve nothing and if anything just make things worse!
Not really will ask my office to join another union ( plenty out there ) and hope other offices do the same thus voting with our feet and money !!
Good idea, we can be like the NHS where there's loads of different unions. Means there's all splits between them, with some unions urging members to accept the pay deal, some members who have actually accepted the deal and others going on strike.

What exactly did you want the CWU to do? Yes they were stupid for promising a no strings no pay, which was never happening, but simple slogans like that make it easy for people to get behind a coherent message. Everybody wants things to stay the same, with early finishes and smaller rounds but that's for the birds. The deal is a decent compromise watering down some of the more extreme changes, which these things always are.

Unions are for workers this may not be the CWU's finest hour but you cannot dispute the fact getting a good deal was in hindered by the utter shite management of the whole company. And the reumaration of the whole board on shareholder value so they gave £568 million and all got a big bonus if someone on here could put this up it would be great but £1 million was just one persons bonus.

Any major future disputes I just can't see union winning. 100% of the mail will be barcoded, most mail centres will have a 2nd machine installed not to mention the the 2nd super hub opening this wk. Striking in future wil have very little effect.

This is the best they could get now it's up to us to vote yes/no. Even if the yes vote gets through not sure about leaving the union.

Same with the teachers too. My wife’s union couldn’t get the threshold to be able to strike so she had to go to work while others went on strike.

The fact that RM is racing to the bottom does it not make more sense to stay in the union more now than ever, imagine no union at all,say goodbye to any deal RM wouldn't even bother with deals.

You think about 50 000 posties will leave the union?
I doubt it.
What would it achieve?

I believe in the trade union movement.
I will remain a trade unionist.
Don't think the poster said 50,000, but I think a lot will leave now, and in the next 18 month, when they close small offices and make staff drive 20/30 mile to the parcel hubs, then sell off the land where the small offices were, its all in the plan. People living the dream in small offices will soon wake up.

BTW Im not saying leave the union, people need to stay in to vote either yes or no, or change the top brass if you want change.

Which is probably because with that many different unions, representing different paygrades, jobs inside the industry, and different schools there were those that didn't actually realise they were being balloted or what they were being balloted about.

Yes the tactics might have been better. Yes there should have been better communication. But RM were right up for this dispute. ST did the job he was recruited to do. RM was intent on destroying our t&Cs and the union along with them. There was bullying, intimidation and scaremongering. They even lied to parliament. Just imagine what would have happened without having a union. RM could have done anything it wanted. Now we have an agreement. We have learnt lessons about strikes. In the words of The Who "we won't get fooled again" RM would like nothing better than to divide and conquer a demoralised workforce. Stay together in the union but learn the lessons.

I couldn’t think of a worse time to leave the union, given how RM will be looking to push, especially senior, posties out the door. The fact that revisions are making rounds unachievable would be reason enough to have union representation right now.

And honestly, the union have done a decent job in securing a pay-rise and a lump sum, continuing they are operating in a privatised industry with a company that is bleeding money. It isn’t like unions dealing with government funded industries, where money can always be found. RM is a failing business.

NEU and NASWUT represent the same grades of staff. They all knew they were been balloted most couldn’t be bothered to return the ballot in the post.

My wife has worked in a few schools and not one of them had a union rep. Unions literally have zero influence in schools and the schools can’t pretty much get away with what they want in most cases.

The only saving grace is that’s you can’t pull teachers off the street and there is also a shortage of teachers in general. If the teachers had one union maybe they would have more collective bargaining.
