Why do we need so many managers?! Why is it acceptable for them to do literally nothing?! Why was there only one there when I got back to the DO?! Why is one of the managers that's doing nothing a guy who took a payoff last year and left, and is now boasting of the "bonus" they paid him to return?!
All this talk of wasted money and they chuck it at people who are just taking it for nothing

letters wont be mon to fri,its more likely to be tue to satnorris9 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023, 15:31Just tell the government Royal Mail is going under if we don't go to a 5 day letter service.
Lose staff through natural wastage, or voluntary redundancy, no compulsory redundancies.
Posties work a 5 day week Mon-Fri.
Overtime on weekends and/or get in weekend staff.
No change to start times.
Reduce the amount of line managers as they do barely anything or make them do more work. Standing around too much during the morning, standing around too much at the end of the day when there's plenty of door2doors that people are behind on due to lack of time/staff. Why aren't they putting them into our frames instead of hanging around chatting.

Based on what? Businesses are generally open Mon-Fri and closed Saturdays so why would it be Tue-Sat?guardianangel wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023, 21:08letters wont be mon to fri,its more likely to be tue to satnorris9 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023, 15:31Just tell the government Royal Mail is going under if we don't go to a 5 day letter service.

Whilst I don't agree with a 5 day USO, everything Royal Mail has done for years has been to de-prioritise the letters. They have always seen it as a millstone round their necks and the fear is that once we lose a day off the USO, how long will it be before they start running the business down even further?norris9 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023, 15:31Just tell the government Royal Mail is going under if we don't go to a 5 day letter service.

For a start,it mean that Monday's are likely to be busier due to the mail, D2Ds and quite possibly non-tracked parcels not being delivered on the Saturday. Will they adjust our hours to reflect that or as more likely expect us to try and do more work in less hours? The parcel super-hubs are designed to give us on deliveries less indoor and more outdoor work, but they have been hit by all sorts of problems. If they ever get these problems resolved then that may eventually push our start times back. Hopefully, the business will find a way around that.
With revisions and bigger duties installed I can honestly see mail being left in frames everyday and the company skimming the mail and focussing on prioritising certain letters, especially barcoded stamped letters as I suspect the company can now track these. Don't quote me on this though.
As for the COMs, I think that once they have got everything up and running the way they want in delivery offices, then they will look at utilising the management team. Over the years the business have recruited more and more managers and they want them to replace some of the long serving managers. As the business keeps modernising, they simply won't need as many of them indoors doing 'admin' work.
That's how I expect it to pan out, only my opinions and not based on fact. In reality though this is the Royal Mail and they never usually do things in the most straightforward manner. Not all of the changes will happen overnight, but there is more pressure on COMs right now and unfortunately that will be passed down onto us.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Once everyone has headed out on their walks you need a MAXIMUM of 1 manager or pay the locker/callers person leadership allowance and then you want need any managers in once everyone has gone out on their walkspostslippete wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023, 06:19As for the COMs, I think that once they have got everything up and running the way they want in delivery offices, then they will look at utilising the management team. Totally Agree Andy
Apparently IF you can use a Laptop and read a spread sheet then you're Royal Mail Manager material
By this criteria I'm thinking of putting my Grandson's name forward! Most Managers have absolutely no people skills, and go out of their way to avoid discussing problemss with staff.

Re: When will it end endless talkin
Most of the existing managers who started as posties years ago are equally useless.
Mind you don't know if it's the same elsewhere but quite a few in my area have left in the last two years, some got redundancy others did the becoming popular default management way out of going off with stress and getting ihr, both options resulted with a big pay off, these were nearly all "old skool" 30-40 years service managers who'd never done a decent days work for royal mail and certainly weren't going to start now.

Re: 5 day USO
It`s not that i cannot see that there is an argument for it, though i am against.
The fear is that once that rubicon has been crossed we will not move into a `steady state` environment.
2 years (max) later, they will be back wanting Rural`s every other day and other cuts.

If the USO goes down to a five-day service, you are looking at 20,000 job cuts.
That is totally unacceptable.

How many jobs have we lost in the last 20 years?
Was that unacceptable?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Agreed, but going down to a five-day service redundancy will be on one hit, not over 20 years
