Re: TALKING COLLEAGUES OUT OF CROSSING THE PICKET LINE
The Strike is pretty much over at this point and i expect more people to cross the picket lines as Christmas draws closer.
I myself would never cross a picket line but all of the hardliners need to show some humility, many of our colleagues are in a dire financial situation, I hope the Union will salvage some kind of deal to save face.

I truly sympathise with you and people who are in your position. These planned strikes will go ahead, and there is no realistic end in sight.macthejaffa wrote: ↑21 Nov 2022, 09:47I’ve got to keep working else I’ll lose my house.

People would have lost their houses even WITHOUT striking such is the current money crisis. Some people are suicidal with worry and the distress this situation is causing.
I believe the vast majority of us could have just about afforded to lose one weeks' pay in October, an action which would have stopped the business in it's tracks immediately and would have had an immediate effect on this dispute. People said 'No no no, losing a full week of pay is too much to ask', but just look at what money we are losing now bang on Christmas time.

I agree that it's an individual's right to make the decision, but I have urged members not to take the decision to cross the picket line lightly. There are friends and colleagues who are there to help, and to support you through this impossible time. People shouldn't live in fear of being ostracised at work because they feel the need to cross the picket line. Discuss it first, let people know how you feel, don't bottle this up.Chaz25 wrote: ↑21 Nov 2022, 07:12Sorry all, I completely disagree- this needs to be an individuals decision, at the end of the day, it’s their livelihood that’s at steak, if you are unable to afford to strike and its having an impact financially that’s causing you to struggle to either pay your mortgage, rent provide for your family, pay bills, then what should really stop you from coming into work? If that’s the best decision for you, everyone needs to ease up, no one else is going to give you a days wages because you have stood at the picket line… by all means show your support, strike if & when you can, I’m not against it, but if you need to cross the picket line, that’s a individuals decision and they should be respected regardless of what they choose to do- especially in these tough time, just put yourselves in their shoes for a little…
Your colleagues will offer you more strength and support than the CWU ever will, let's get through this together.

Re: TALKING COLLEAGUES OUT OF CROSSING THE PICKET LINE
Other Unions such as UNITE give strike pay that helps
People need to start accepting at the top of the CWU mass protracted walkouts no longer work. The Miners strike proved that. The old strategy of walkouts have been banished to history.
People are now paying on average £100 a month more on their mortgage and will increase over the next 12 months. Then utility bills as well as petrol and inflation
Financial institutions will screw you with penalty fees and charges for missed payments compounding that misery.
Then you have employees already with County Court Judgements who have to pay a fixed sum ordered by the court.
If you can afford to walk than fine, but do not demonise the employee with a home and kids to support already on the breadline. That is a form of bullying no matter how you dress it up.

Re: TALKING COLLEAGUES OUT OF CROSSING THE PICKET LINE
I can understand people going back, doesn't mean that i will, we live in a democracy and i am mortgage and child free so expenses are less than the 20 to 30yr olds who are in debt to the hilt and live pay cheque to pay cheque i refuse to criticise them. Simple slymans plan all along has finally come to light and while some of us suspected it we could never be sure. He's a not very nice person, narcissist and a egomaniac who is quite prepared to do whatever it takes to break the workforce never mind the union. He lives off the social media engagement, good or bad, and believes he is a very smart person. His problem is that at some stage if we dont bottle out his plans will come back to bite him as happens to all egomaniacs and dictators. They always and i mean always get found out its only a matter of time, the only problem is will we get him before or after he destroys this company. Lies always get found out and consequences cant be avoided even with money and they will feed him to the wolves to save themselves. I am in no way a left winger, i am just a man who has lived and worked for 43yrs and seen the good and the bad of it all, i know it seems bad at the moment but hold your nerve because Slyman is relying on you panicking and going back in.

Re: TALKING COLLEAGUES OUT OF CROSSING THE PICKET LINE
Yet again, this is the problem. The social media campaign from the CWU hierarchy has made the dispute personal rather than on the specifics of the dispute. It has degraded into nothing more than click likes and mud slinging mentality. As the saying goes, never mix business with pleasure. At the end of the day he is the CEO and your employer and in a position of respect, even if you strongly disagree with his methods.
Let us not forget who opened up that door allowing Simon Thompson the opportunity with this slash and burn agenda with little resistance?
