They've been a member since 2009 , don't even think Simon would have had the foresight to become a member of the site for future posts

I haven't posted often since the last period of sustained IA so I can only assume posts beyond a certain age are dismissed. Think what you will of what I am telling you. Next week come back and tell me I was wrong.

Our section is struggling to get 1/2 the duties clear right now and people are starting to go off sick as happens when the clocks go back. Good luck laying off posties and not replacing them. If the strikes are costing the company money slashing staff numbers will cause permanent losses.

Office with with 45 walks and 65 staff with 8 vacancies is being tasked to remove 200 hours ( fact) therefore they set up a Mickey Mouse revision to remove said hours - schedule the indoor / increase all spans blah blah there's your job losses - wether it "works " or not in our eyes is irrelevant as they expect reduction in USO and new starts on less money

Removing hours from offices is a pure money saving exercise, nothing more nothing less.

"Take these few walks out, give him a few streets, give her the newbuild growth, put this estate on his frame and we'll lapse it permanently".

Absolutely no thought or method put into it.

The whole business is rotten to the core.

To be honest if they were to give £25000 redundancy for 20 years service they could get rid of at least half the workforce over 40 they would bite your hand off and royal mail could replace them all with agency ,now i'd be up for that.

Forget it that’s not going to happen. There’s enough people walking away for free at the moment.

Sadly this is the case and the union numbers are disappearing right before our eyes,no wonder they can't afford decent lawyers, years of neglect and bodged agreements.

Im surprised Royal Mail have never used the continental shift pattern 4 on 3 off 7 days a week, you could have part timers on the 3 days and full timers on the 4 days with longer days .The shift patterns now just don't work in a modern business the days of 6 till 2 are over.

Several offices are having a high staff turnover already citing poor wages and stress..

It's not cutting hours you need, it's adding more hours in as offices clearly can't cope with gaps in staffing.

The last time I seen anything like was during DRAS dispute 1988 "Difficult to Recruit Area Supplement", which was introduced to counter high staff turnover in the South East as wages were too low to be able to afford housing which were going up a lot and jobs locally were offering a better rate of pay.

Now we're in a similar position except not many jobs were offering a really good rate of pay, so they must be leaving for less stressful jobs.

How do you cut staff while simultaneously opening up the network for longer days and Sundays?

Make the delivery rounds bigger, take delivery frames out. Reduce the staff.

Example. 12 x RM2000 frames with 500 delivery points, 6000 calls.

Take 2 frames out, put those 1000 calls on the other 10, 100 houses more to each.

Doesn't matter now if the new bigger frames with 600 calls go out on a daily basis.

We don't have to clear every day, so it's easy for them to justify job cuts.

We deliberately do not cover annual leave weeks with the reserves now, the jobs get lapsed as and when. The returning postie comes back to a mess after that leave and they do what they can for a few days until it's clear. When people go sick they do the same.

Covid changed everything.
