What is the point of negotiation?

This concerns me. Allegations and accusations are being banded about that Royal Mail is losing xyz millions and has to modernise to survive. Counter allegations are saying Royal Mail figures are bogus.

Thing is, Royal Mail is a privatised industry overseen by the Regulator Ofcom.

Royal Mail just cannot pluck figures out of the air, as they have a fiduciary duty to the shareholder. That is why the Royal Mail accounts have to be independently audited. That is the law.

The union acknowledged last night that Royal Mail are not in a good financial state and we need to change , but that change needs to right for its members as well as the company.

I gave the answer clearly. Take a week out and grind the business to an immediate halt.

It amazes me how some members have lost over £1000 in wages already for absolutely nothing, yet some posters think that striking for a solid week would be impossible in this current cost of living crisis. Fuc*ing hell, how much more one or two days of lost pay is it going to take??

People are having second thoughts anyway, you ask them to lose two days pay every week in December and we are no further forward, that number will rapidly increase.

These 2 x 2 day strikes in consecutive weeks will place a real strain on members.

I take your point, but it's going to be a worse net effect than that one weeks' loss of money. In taking that massive step, something would be achieved. I'm not taking it lightly.

The 2 x 2 days will become 4 x 2 days in December and still we'll be no further forward.

Ask people to do that, and that's where the real strain lies.

CWU are apparently putting forward changes that they will find acceptable, the only way I see this ending in a better place than now is if RM agree to compromise on the T’s & C’s. I
don’t see there being any more money offered.

People will not strike for a whole week in a cost of living crisis with mortgages/ rent / bills to pay , you are living in cuckoo land and there is more chance of losing the members and the dispute that way. Targeted action like what has been announced is the right way to go for now along with talks at acas to try to find a breakthrough.This forum shows everyone has different ideas of how to go about it , which is why the union have such a tough job keeping everyone happy.

RM have shown they can ride out a day or 2 days strike action here and there. This is why I feel a weeks action is needed and fast ie after Black Friday. But as you say we all have our own ideas!

I don't see striking as a loss of money. I see it as time off work. Some extra deserved rest. Life isn't all about working for Simon Thompson.
