This wouldnt have changed anything. Still wouldnt have been able to go ahead with rolling strikes.

The union's request for an inquiry was irrelevant.
The inquiry was triggered by VESA stating they wanted to increase their shareholding to over 25%.
30% triggers a takeover bid.

I am not sure if any of the Business Secretaries acknowledged Dave's letter or if there was any input from the CWU into the decision.
I could be wrong but it looks like the CWU were just ignored.

I try not to get too stressed about "The Big Picture", although I realise IF it happens it's obviously going to affect us all.

Bear in mind the Serenity Prayer. You know the one that starts: "God give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change ....."

Whatever happens it's not like selling off a small family business, he's going to have over 100,000 pissed off Posties to deal with!

When we were privatised wasn't there some talk about creating an employee's trust for our shares?

we could have still got dividends, but our collective shareholding might have limited the business's ability to attack its own workforce.

The Government also kept a 30% stake for a while but sold it off, like pretty much everything else.

Many countries do still have a retaining stake in their postal service post privatisation.

Of course we don't for obvious reasons, cause people keep voting 'em in. Bear in mind, one of the reasons for privatising the postal service in the first place, was so the private sector could "manage the decline", and get it off the Government's books.
