There is also another point here. Royal Mail say that you are not to get overtime or work your day off in a strike week as a sort of 'punishment' for going on strike but management are bending the rules right left and centre to get jobs covered and offices clear. To me this shows just how effective the strikes are being.

I completely agree with you here, but we dont need an official work to rule, if everyone works to their start and finish times, thats all that is needed, but there are too many too eager to do the overtime. Under normal circumstances no issue with overtime, but straight after a strike day is as close to scabbing as you can get in my opinion.

I cannot see the point in striking then doing overtime the following day(s) to clear the strike backlog, its just playing into Thompsons hands, and I think this will be what breaks the strike if these people doing overtime continue lapping it up at everyones expense without seeing the bigger picture.

My office was like that, after every strike, all the over timers would jump at the chance for all the overtime they could get their hands on.

Manager told me today that in our office OPG's will only be paid for the hours they work, starting from next week I bet some will still do it, but at least the failures will go up!

Not everyone is in the same financial position whilst these strikes are on. I usually work my rest day but have chosen not to during the strikes because I can survive without out it by making a few cut backs.

But there are those, particularly on part time contracts that were already in a financially precarious position before the strikes began due to the lack of hours they are employed to do.

Don't judge people by your own circumstances. The fact that someone stays off on strike days shows they are doing their bit. I have no problem without someone trying to make up their pay. For all you know they may have 5 kids to feed so what should they do let them starve just so someone with 10k in the bank and sitting comfortably will stop harassing them?

However the op done 6 hours overtime today after their duty and posted at 5pm they were called a scab. They should be working till about 8 pm for that 6 hours overtime it’s no wonder we are where we are

We had a similar conversation in our office

I’m on a part time contract (30hours) so I’ve always done overtime to make up my wage to an amount I can live off

I’ve averaged 20hours overtime a week for the past 3 years

20 hours pay a week, every week until???? Well that is just too much to lose

If those full timers feel that strongly about not doing overtime maybe they could stick their hands in their pockets and make it a level playing field on how much we’re all sacrificing

But all them full timers were once part time as well

And please note anyone who signed a contract to work part time is just that part time
I was 8 years pt before I received a ft contract
What are all the part time staff going to do if RM get their way and overtime gets swallowed up in annualised hours

In one day the original poster has done, based on full time hours (roughly) 13.5 hours-in one day. over half as much as a part timer on a 25 hour a week contract.

That's even worse..... you're on the picket line - so you actually fully believe in the strikes?....then you contradict yourself by doing extra work the following day after a strike?

There's no point in striking at all if you're going to do that. You might as well be coming in on the strike day.

Why until 8pm? A whole frame is six hours, even if it takes me 3 hours whats your problem? Jealousy? Would you slow down after 2pm then because its not going to take you six hours?

Don't be silly norris, whether you like it or not, in the absence of a work to rule mandate he's not doing anything wrong especially if that was a typical work pattern for him/her pre industrial action. I don't necessarily agree with the extent of overtime they've chosen to do, doing a whole extra duty, seems a bit excessive, but their call really. Main thing is they support the strike action.

Working 5 days in the week when contracted to work 5 days in the week is withdrawing nothing

This is getting really immature.

There are two opinions
(1) Dont work your day / come in early / extend / take extra out
(2) Opposite of (1)

Its the much the same in my office. Those doing (1), still doing (1). Those doing (2) still doing (2).

Neither is doing anything wrong. I understand why posties do either one.

What I dont get is why are we fighting amongst ourselves over it. The CWU have allowed it.
